씨가 뿌려지는 곳이 사람의 마음이라는 것은 이미 말씀을 드렸습니다. 그러니까 길과 같은 마음은 정처 없는 마음이라는 것이고, 돌밭이라면 사람의 마음에 돌이 많다는 것입니다. 성경에서 돌은 늘 법이나 율법으로 상징됩니다. 이는 모세가 율법을 돌에 받았기 때문입니다. 그래서 법으로 심판하여 사형에 처하는 것을 돌로 쳐 죽인다고 말을 하는 것입니다.

그렇다면 사람의 마음에 돌 곧 법이 많다는 것은 어떤 의미일까요? 그것은 바로 “이것은 이렇게 해야 한다.”는 것이 많다는 것입니다. 예를 들면 “술은 마시면 안 된다.”라는 것이나 “주일에는 회사에 일하러 가면 안 된다”와 같은 것들입니다. 그런 법칙을 마음에 많이 가지고 있는 사람들이 바로 돌밭과 같은 마음을 가진 사람이라 할 수 있습니다.

그런 법은 나쁜 것이 아닙니다. 그러나 돌과 같은 법은 생명이 없고 경직된 법입니다. 생명의 법은 언제나 유연하고 경직되지 않습니다. 예를 들어 고양이라는 생명은 그 본성 곧 고양이라는 생명의 법이 어떤 순간 어떤 환경에서도 고양이로 살도록 유연하며, 언제라도 그 속에 있는 고양이의 본성이 그 개체를 고양이답게 행하게 합니다. 그러나 “이렇게 해야만 해!”라고 하는 법은 어느 순간 반드시 그 법으로 인하여 걸려 넘어지게 되어 있습니다.

예를 들면 “주일날은 일하러 가면 안 된다.”는 법을 지키려면 기독교인은 일요일에도 일을 해야만 하는 소방관과 같은 직업을 가질 수 없습니다. 그러면 그렇게 하는 것이 신앙을 지키는 것이라고 주장합니다. 그게 돌과 같은 법을 가진 것입니다. 그렇게 주장하면 땅 끝까지 복음을 전하라는 말씀을 지킬 수 없습니다. 소방서에는 예수 믿는 사람이 들어갈 수 없기 때문입니다. 바로 이렇게 경직된 법을 돌과 같은 법이라고 하는 것입니다.

그런 마음을 가지고 하나님의 말씀을 들으면 이렇게 생각하면 맞는데 저렇게 생각하면 맞지 않는 모순에 늘 부딪히게 됩니다. 그냥 말씀만 들어도 그런 모순에 걸려 넘어지는데 환난과 핍박을 받으면 견딜 재간이 있을 수 없습니다. 환난과 핍박은 돌 같은 법으로 대응할 수 있는 것이 아니기 때문입니다. 생명의 법이라면 몰라도 말입니다. 생명의 법은 고양이가 바다 한 가운데 떠 다니는 배 위에 두어도 고양이로 살게 하지만 ‘고양이는 땅에 사는 짐승이야’라는 법을 가지고 있으면 배 위에 있는 고양이를 용납할 수 없기 때문입니다.

주일에 회사에 가서 일하면 안 된다는 사람에게 회사의 상사가 “회사가 바쁘니 이번 주말에 다들 출근해주면 좋겠다.”고 하면 그것은 환난이 됩니다. 그러면 “가면 안 돼”라고 버틸 수 있겠지만 그렇게 한다면 회사를 잃거나 그렇지 않더라도 적어도 자기 다니는 회사 사람들이 그를 보고 신앙을 가지기는 힘들 것입니다. ‘교회에 다니다 가는 밥 줄 끊어지겠네’라고 생각할 것이기 때문입니다. 그리고 사람은 자기 자신을 자기 생각과 신념대로 움직이는 것에는 한계가 있습니다. 결국은 그것을 버텨내지 못하는 것입니다.

저도 많은 사람들에게 복음을 전합니다. 이렇게 블로그로 전하는 것 외에 직접적으로 만나서 이야기 하기도 합니다. 때로 곱게 이야기하지 않기도 합니다만(그래선 안 되는데) 기존에 신앙을 가진 이들을 만나서 이야기하면 많은 법을 가지고 있음을 절감합니다. 목사가 있어야 교회라는 것이나, 매일 교회의 목사나 교회의 정책을 비판하기에 ‘그러면서 왜 가냐?’고 반문하면 그래도 주일 예배는 드려야 한다는 법을 이야기 합니다. 그런 모든 것이 다 돌밭과 같은 마음입니다.

특히 교리라는 것이 있습니다. 교리는 신앙의 모습을 결론적으로 요약한 것입니다. 교리는 틀리지 않지만 교리는 지키는 것이 아닙니다. 이것을 비유해 본다면, <추억 만들기>라는 말이 있습니다. 말 그대로 시간이 지난다음에 추억할 일들을 만든다는 것입니다. 하지만 추억이란 만드는 것이 아니라 살다 보니 삶의 흔적으로 남은 것을 생각할 때 추억이 되는 것입니다. 그와 같이 교리는 그리스도의 본성으로 살다 보니 나타나는 삶의 모양들을 집약한 것이지, 교리대로 살면 신앙인이 되는 것이 아닙니다.

그런데 그것을 지켜야 한다는 것입니다. 하나님의 말씀을 듣고서 그 말씀이 자기 생명이 되면 그 생명의 본성으로 인하여 살아가게 되는 자기 삶의 모습이 바로 교리로 정리된 삶이 되는 것인데, 말씀을 듣기만 하면 자신이 지키려는 교리가 자연스럽게 지켜질 수 밖에 없는 생명이 된다는데 그것을 듣지 않고 오히려 교리를 지켜야 한다는 것입니다. 그래서 하나님의 말씀을 전해도 그것으로는 안 된다고 합니다. 그러다 정말로 말씀을 끝까지 듣지 않게 되기가 일쑤입니다.

바울 사도는 로마서 9장에서 유대인들이 법을 지키려다 의에 이르지 못한 것을 두고 ‘부딪힐 돌에 부딪힌 것’(롬 9:32)이라고 말씀하였습니다. 하나님의 말씀이 자기 마음 밭에 떨어져서 생명이 되면 자신이 지키려는 모든 법이 지키지 않으려 노력을 해도 지킬 수밖에 없는 생명이 되는데, 그 말씀은 듣지 않고 ‘이래야 한다’, ‘저래야 한다’는 법만 마음에 가득한 사람이 바로 돌밭과 같은 마음인 것입니다.

예수님께서는 가시밭과 길가와 돌밭은 좋은 열매가 열리지 않는다고 하십니다. 그건 너무 당연한 것입니다. 그러면 예수님께서 농사 비법을 알려주시기 위해서 이 말씀을 하셨을까요? 가시와 길과 돌은 다 의미하는 것이 있습니다. 그리고 그것은 오늘 우리 마음 안에도 있거나 있었던 것입니다. 특히나 하나님을 알고자 하는 사람들에게 말입니다.

첫 번째, 길에 대하여 말씀하셨습니다. 길에 떨어진 씨는 새가 와서 먹어 버렸다고 하셨습니다. 길에 떨어진 씨는 심기지도 못했습니다. 예수님께서는 새가 사탄이라고 하셨습니다. 씨를 뿌렸으나 사탄이 와서 먹어 버렸다고 했습니다. 재미있는 것은 새는 굳이 길가 뿐 아니라 논이나 밭에 있는 열매도 먹어버리는데 여기서 특별히 새를 언급하시고 그것이 사탄이라고 하신 것입니다.

길은 어떤 자리가 아닙니다. 정체성이 불분명합니다. 나그네와 같은 인생이라고 하는 것이 있는데 자기 존재의 정체성을 알지 못하는 인생이라는 의미입니다. 새 또한 거처가 없습니다. 이는 예수님께서 다른 말씀(공중 나는 새를 보라)을 하실 때도 말씀을 하신 것입니다. 길이나 새나 다 정처가 없는 것입니다. 즉 자기 정체성을 알지 못하는 사람을 말씀하시는 것입니다.

자기 존재의 정체성이 무엇인지도 모르는 사람에게 전해진 말씀은 어디서 왔는지, 그 정처도 모르는 것에 의하여 다 빼앗긴다는 것입니다. 하나님의 말씀은 인생의 정체성을 알려주시는 말씀인데 자기 정체성도 없이 하나님의 말씀을 들으니 사탄과 같이 온갖 정체불명의 이론과 신앙에 모든 것을 다 빼앗긴다는 것입니다.

하나님의 말씀은 존재에 관한 말씀인데 그 정체성을 알지 못하고 성경을 온갖 행위 규범으로 읽고 듣고 공부하는 이들은 자기들이 공부한 모든 하나님의 말씀을 사탄에게 다 빼앗깁니다. 존재의 말씀을 행위 규범으로 읽고 “~을 할까?”로 궁리하니, ‘헌금해야 복 받는다.’는 새에게 자기 말씀을 다 빼앗기고, ‘봉사해야 복 받는다’는 사탄에게 홀려서 몸으로 수고하나 얻는 것 없이 공허함만 남은 것이 바로 씨가 다 빼앗긴 것과 같은 것입니다.

교회에 가서 하나님의 말씀을 듣고서 뭔가를 한 것 같은데 어느 순간 생각해보면 아무 것도 남은 게 없는 것 같은 공허함을 느끼는 것이 바로 새가 먹어버린 것입니다. 예전 학창시절에 저도 주일 저녁 수요일 저녁 예배를 마치고 큰 소리와 방언으로 1시간 이상씩 기도했었습니다. 그래서 늘 목이 쉬어 있었습니다. 그러던 어느 날 밤늦게 기도하고 돌아가는 버스에서 문득, ‘지금 이 차가 사고 나서 내가 죽으면 천국에 갈 수 있을까?’ 생각했는데 그러기 힘들 것 같았습니다.그렇게 기도한 것을 다 새가 먹어 버린 것입니다.

지금도 많은 사람들이 교회에 다니면서 때로는 눈물겨운 수고하기도 합니다. 정말로 애틋하나 아무 소용없는 짓입니다. 그 수고가 하나님의 마음을 움직일 것을 기대하고 하는 모든 수고와 열심은 다 새가 먹어 버릴 것입니다. 즉 사탄에게 다 빼앗길 것입니다. 왜냐하면 그 수고가 다 사탄이 바라는 것이기 때문입니다. 사탄이 다른 게 사탄이 아닙니다. 하나님의 뜻, 하나님의 와 정체성에 맞지 않는 것을 행하는 모든 것이 다 사탄의 일이기 때문입니다.

하나님은 존재의 신이시고, 우리가 하나님의 의를 우리 심령에 생명과 본성으로 품어 그것이 육신으로 표현되어 하나님의 의와 성품을 나타내시기를 바라시는데, 우리가 그것과 반대인 사탄의 뜻대로 열심히 행동하면 우리의 심령이 바뀔 것이라고 믿고, 그것을 하나님의 말씀이라고 받으면 그것은 다 빼앗기도 하나도 남지 않을 것이라는 것입니다.

씨 뿌리는 비유는 단순하고 설명까지 다 되어 있는 비유의 말씀이다 보니 사람들은 그 뜻을 다 안다고 생각합니다. 하지만 설명 드린 것과 같이 하나님의 정체성을 알지 못하는 신앙을 가지고 있다면 그 신앙은 다 길에 있는 신앙이고, 그 신앙의 모든 수고와 열매(열매로 착각하는 결과)는 다 사탄의 것이 된다는 것입니다.

그러므로 이 비유의 말씀에 나오는 길 가에 뿌려진 씨가 어떤 것인지를 진정으로 알려면 자기 신앙의 방향성과 정체성이 분명한지를 돌아보아야 하는 것입니다. 하나님께서 우리에게 정하신 존재의 정체성을 향하는 분명한 방향과 자리가 회복되지 않았다면 그것은 길 위에 있는 것이고, 그 길 위에서 죽어라 고생하는 모든 수고는 다 사탄의 것임을 깨달을 때 이 비유에 나오는 길 가에 뿌려진 씨가 무엇인지를 아는 것이 될 것입니다.

우선 이 비유를 이야기하기 전에 우리는 성경을 볼 때 얼마나 인간적인 시각으로 보는지에 대하여 잠깐 이야기 해 보고자 합니다. 이유는 예수님의 비유를 이해하는 것에 있어서 비유를 하신 예수님의 시각과 안목과 다른 안목을 가지고 있다면 당연히 어렵거나 때로는 불합리한 말씀이 될 것이기 때문입니다.

예수님은 하나님의 말씀이 육신이 되신 분이십니다. 그렇다는 것은 예수님의 모든 관점과 가치관과 생각과 의는 다 하나님과 같다는 것입니다. 그러므로 예수님의 비유를 읽고 들으면서 ‘그건 좀 불합리한데?’와 같은 생각이 든다면 과감하게 그것이 예수님의 생각과 다르다는 것을 인정해야 합니다. 그렇지 않으면 하나님의 말씀이자 예수님이 하신 비유를 알아들을 수 없거나 일부만 자신의 것이 되거나 아니면 아예 아전인수 격으로 들을 것이기 때문입니다.

이런 이야기를 하는 것은 이 비유 속에서 어떤 씨가 어디에 떨어졌는지에 대한 공평성에 관한 의문을 제기하는 사람들이 있기 때문입니다. ‘하나님께서 사람에게 동등한 기회를 주어야지, 왜 누구는 좋은 밭이고, 누구는 돌짝밭이냐?’고 묻기 때문입니다. 하지만 그것은 씨 뿌리는 자의 마음입니다. 물론 생각하기에 따라서는 씨를 뿌리다보면 흩어지듯 하니 밭에 인접한 가시넝쿨에도 또 길에도 또 돌밭에도 뿌려질 수 있다고 할 수도 있지만, 근본적으로 씨가 뿌려지는 곳은 사람의 마음, 곧 사람이라는 것입니다.

그러므로 이 비유는 하나님께서 성경을 통해서 또 예수님을 통해서 그리고 아주 아주 중요한 것으로 하나님의 의를 깨달은 사람의 말을 듣는 사람의 마음가짐이 어떤가에 대한 비유고 말씀이라는 것입니다. 조금 이해하기 쉽게 한다면, 네 가지 밭을 같은 시간으로 보지 않으면 도움이 될 수 있습니다. 성경에서도 언뜻 보기엔 동시에 뿌린 것 같은 느낌을 주지만 꼭 그렇다고만 볼 수는 없는 것입니다.

다시 말해서 이 네 가지 밭이 상황에 따라서는 한 사람의 시간도 될 수 있는 것입니다. 한 사람의 마음이 처음에는 길바닥 같다가, 또 어떨 때는 돌밭 같기도 하다가, 또 가시넝쿨과 같을 때도 있습니다. 그렇게 험난한 세월을 보내면서 자기 마음이 갈리고 갈려서 잘 갈려진 좋은 밭이 되기도 합니다. 그리고 그렇게 되어야 하는 것이기도 합니다. 한 사람의 마음이 하나님의 말씀을 순종적으로 받아들일 수 있도록 세월을 보내야 한다는 뜻도 있다고 할 수 있습니다.

많은 사람들이 하나님의 말씀을 듣고자 합니다. 그 안에서 진리를 찾으려는 사람도 있고, 어떤 사람들은 억측 같지만 밥벌이로 성경을 읽는 사람도 있습니다. 물론 그 마음가짐에 따라 열매가 달라지는 것은 자명한 일입니다. 이 비유 역시 그것을 말씀하시는 것이기도 합니다.

또 한 가지 생각해볼 수 있는 것이 있습니다. 그것은 열매가 열리는 것이 반드시 땅의 문제만 있느냐 하는 것도 있습니다. 많은 설교를 하고, 성경에 대하여 많은 주장도 하고, 성경에 대하여 해박한 지식을 이야기했는데, 그 말을 듣고 그리스도를 발견하지 못한다면 그 또한 문제가 되는 것입니다. 한 마디로 정리하면 한 사람이 그리스도로 거듭나지 않는다면 들은 말씀이 문제거나 아니면 그 말씀을 듣는 사람의 마음이 아직은 좋은 밭으로 갈리지 않았다는 것일 것입니다. 

한 가지 분명하게 짚고 갈 것이 있는데 그것은 한 사람이 그리스도로 거듭났다고 하는 것이 무엇이냐는 것입니다. 단순히 교회에 다니게 되고 밥 먹을 때 식사 기도하고 십일조 하면 그리스도로 거듭난 것일까요? 그게 아닙니다. 어떤 말씀을 들었더니 미운 오리새끼가 하늘 나는 백조를 보았더니 자신이 백조라는 것을 깨닫고 하늘을 날게 된 것과 같이 자기 자신이 바로 그리스도라는 것이 깨달아질 때, 그것이 바로 그리스도로 거듭난 것입니다. 그런 역사함이 있어야 전한 말씀도 하나님의 씨이고 듣는 사람도 좋은 밭이라는 것을 알 수 있다는 것입니다. 물론 이 씨 뿌리는 비유에서는 씨는 의심할 여지가 없습니다.

사람이라는 조건 외에 목사라는 신분이나, 세상적으로 인정받는 성공을 한 사람일 때 귀를 빌려주는 사람이 아니라, 신분이나 생김새나 능력에 무관하게 단지 사람이라는 것, 그것뿐인데 들어보니 그것이 하나님의 말씀이라는 것을 발견할 수 있는 사람이라야 신분이나 성공 없는 자신도 그리스도의 생명으로 거듭날 수 있는 것입니다. 그렇게 들을 수 있어야 좋은 밭이라는 것입니다.
