(야고보서 1:19-27) 마음에 심긴 영혼을 구원하는 도

성경은 성경이 말씀하시고자 하는 방향과 법으로 보면 그야말로 쉬운 책이고, 반대로 성경이 말씀하시는 것과 다른 방향과 법으로 보면 어려운 것입니다. 그렇기 때문에 성경을 신학이라고 공부하는 사람이나 성경을 지키기 어렵기 때문에 늘 깨어 있어야 한다는 사람들은 한 마디로 성경을 모르는 사람이라 할 수 있습니다. 예수님께서 예수님의 짐은 가볍다고 했는데, 몇 년씩 공부해야 알 수 있다는 것은 한 마디로 사기행각에 불과한 것이기 때문입니다.

성경은 흔히 생명의 말씀이라고 합니다. 생명의 말씀이라는 것은 이 말씀이 생명의 아버지이신 하나님께서 주신 말씀이기 때문입니다. 하나님께서 생명의 아버지이신 것은 우리가 알고 있는 모든 생명의 법이 하나님께서 정하시고, 하나님으로부터 나온 법이기 때문입니다. 그리고 우리가 알고 있는 모든 생명들은 같은 법을 가지고 있습니다. 생명은 그 유전자가 몸으로 나타나는 것이고, 생명은 만드는 것이 아니라 낳아지는 것이라는 것이 그것입니다.

그래서 성경에서는 하나님은 농부시고 그 뜻하신 말씀을 씨를 뿌리듯 사람에게 심는다고 하십니다. 사람은 흙으로 만들어졌기에 씨가 심기는 땅으로 늘 비유됩니다. 사람 안에 하나님의 말씀이 심기면 그것이 성령으로 잉태되어 생명이 되고, 그리고 그 생명이 가진 유전적인 본성이 몸으로 표현되고 행동되고 나타나는 것입니다. 성경이 말씀하고 있는 모든 행동과 행함, ‘~~하라’고 하시는 말씀은 다 그것에 관한 것입니다. 

즉 성경이 말씀하시는 ‘~~하라’는 것은 그 행동을 하는 생명이 되라는 것입니다. 그리고 그 생명이 되려면 그 생명의 본성이 사람 안에 심겨야 하는 것입니다. 그 생명이 심긴 적이 없고, 성경이 말씀하시는 것이 그 심긴 것이 표현되는 것이라는 것을 알지 못하면 제 아무리 성경을 다 지켜낸다 해도 소용이 없고, 몸을 불사르게 내어주어도 소용이 없다는 것입니다. 또한 성경을 신학이라며 공부하고, 그 공부를 해야 말씀을 전하는 자리에 선다는 것과 같은 것도 다 마음에 말씀이 심긴 것이 아니기 때문입니다. 

어떤 사람이 생물학적으로 사람이 되기 위해서 공부합니까? 그런 바보짓을 하는 것이 바로 신학이기도 합니다. 마음에 심긴 것은 그 시절이 되면 다 씨의 생명으로 표현되는 것입니다. 사과 씨가 심기면 사과가 나는 것입니다. 그리스도의 말씀이 심기면 그것이 그리스도의 삶이 되거나 아니거나 할 뿐이지, 공부를 해서 보완하거나 더 좋아지거나 그래야 하는 것은 아니라는 것입니다.

야고보 사도가 말씀하시는 ‘영혼을 구원하는 도’ 역시 이것을 말씀하시는 것입니다. 구원은 죽을 자리에서 회복되는 것인데, 우리가 죽을 자리에 있었다는 것은 하나님의 생명의 법으로 볼 때 죽은 자와 같은 자리에 있었다는 것입니다. 그 자리는 하나님께서 의도하신 것이 이루어지지 않은 자리입니다. 의학적으로 죽은 자리가 아닙니다. 하나님께서 사람을 지으신 의와 법의 자리를 떠난 것이 죽은 자리입니다. 그 자리에서 회복된 구원은 하나님께서 정한 자리로 돌아온 것을 말씀하시는 것입니다.

즉 행함으로 구원을 받으려 하고, 눈에 보이는 세상을 본질로 알고, 또 한편에서는 하나님께서 육신을 주신 이유가 우리 안에 심긴 하나님의 생명, 곧 그리스도가 표현되는 도구로서 주셨는데, 이 육신을 부정하게 보고, 하나님 앞에 의미 없는 것으로 보는 것이 사망의 자리에 있는 것입니다. 그 자리에서 우리 심령 안에 하나님의 의가 심기면 그 씨가 생명이 되어 육신으로 그 하나님의 의를 표현해내는 도구로, 소비재로 활용하는 것이라는 것을 아는 자리가 생명의 자리인 것입니다.

야고보 사도가 말씀하시는 <영혼을 구원하는 도>가 바로 이것입니다. 그렇기 때문에 이 도에 대하여 듣는 것은 속히 하고 말하는 것은 천천히 하라고 하는 것입니다. 이 도는 생명의 법이기 때문에 나타나는 것은 객관적 시간의 빠름이 적용되지 않기 때문입니다. 생명은 언제나 자기 시절을 좇아 나는 것입니다. 가을 과일을 봄에 먹을 수 없다는 것입니다.

하지만 씨를 받아들임과 같이 하나님의 말씀을 듣는 것에는 언제나 속히 해야 하는 것입니다. 이스라엘 백성들이 애굽을 나오기 전 마지막 재앙이 애굽을 덮칠 때에 하나님께서 이스라엘 백성들에게 어린 양을 잡아서 그 뼈를 꺾지 말고 먹되 신을 신고 허리에 띠를 띠고 바로 출발할 수 있는 상태로 먹으라고 하셨습니다. 어린 양을 먹는다는 것은 그리스도를 자기 안에 심는 것과 같은 것이고, 뼈를 꺾지 않는다는 것은 그 의를 자기 힘으로 상하게 하지 말라는 것입니다. 그리고 속히 먹으라고 했습니다. 생명을 받아들이는 것은 그 때가 있기 때문에 그 때를 놓치면 안 되기 때문입니다. 모내기의 때를 놓치면 쌀을 먹을 수 없는 것과 같은 것입니다.

또한 듣는 것은 믿음의 본질입니다. “믿음은 들음에서 난다.”는 말씀이 그렇고 “듣는 것이 수양의 기름보다 낫고 순종이 제사보다 낫다.”는 말씀이 또한 그것입니다. 하나님의 의, 우리 영혼을 구원할 도는 언제나 듣는 것입니다. 순종적으로 수용할 때 의미가 있는 것입니다. 그리고 그것은 시절 안에서 속히 해야 하는 것입니다.

‘인생은 풀의 꽃과 같다.’고 했고, 인생은 아침 이슬과 같은 것인데, 이 짧은 인생 안에 하나님께서 우리를 지으신 목적을 표현하게 하는 생명의 의를 받아들이는 것을 속히 해야 한다는 것이 바로 이것입니다. 우리 인생이 길어야 100년인데 그 안에 하나님의 의가 무엇인지를 받아 들여야 한다는 것입니다. 그리고 그 생명이 표현되는 것에 있어서는 서두르지 말라는 것입니다. 그래서 말도 천천히 하라는 것입니다. 말은 사람 안에 있는 것이 무엇인지 알게 하는 표현이기 때문입니다.

우리가 하나님의 의가 생명이 되는 삶을 살면, 그 생명의 시절을 좇아서 말하고, 또한 화를 낼 일에는 화를 내기도 할 것입니다. 그런데 그것은 참 온유한 것입니다. 하나님의 의를 가지고 화를 내는 것은 온전한 일이나, 더 온전한 것이 있다면 화나게 하는 사람이 스스로 돌이킬 수 있게 살아내는 것입니다. 그것이 온유한 것입니다.

그러므로 이런 저런 모양으로 말씀하고 있으나, 야고보 사도가 말씀하시고자 하는 것은 <영혼을 구원할 도>가 우리 안에서 생명이 되는 법에 대하여 말씀하시는 것입니다. 그 생명의 도가 우리 안에 심기면 그것이 우리 육신으로 나타날 것이기 때문입니다. 이것은 정말로 중요한 것이기에 하나님의 말씀을 받아들이는 것은 시절을 놓치지 말고, 그 생명이 표현되는 것은 서두르지 말고 그 때에 맞기면 온유한 삶이 될 것이라는 것을 말씀하고 있는 것입니다.
