(야고보서 1:19-27) 말씀을 듣기만 하는 것은 자신을 속이는 것

우리는 흔히 야고보서가 믿음보다 행함을 강조하는 성경이라고 생각합니다. 하지만 실상은 그렇지 않습니다. 야고보 사도가 말씀하시는 행함은 어디까지나 믿음이 있어 그 믿음이 표현된 것을 말합니다. 그렇기 때문에 믿음이 없다면 행함도 없다는 것을 말씀하고 있습니다.

야고보 사도 역시 바울과 같은 말씀을 전하고 있습니다. 바울 사도가 율법이란 하나님의 의가 자기 안에 있으면 그 의가 삶으로 나타난 모양이 율법이라고 말씀하고 있습니다. 예수님께서 율법을 완성하러 오셨다고 하신 것입니다. 야고보 사도 역시 ‘그리스도의 도’는 심기는 것이라고 했습니다. 심기면 싹이 나고 나무가 되어 그 씨가 가진 생명의 본성을 표현하게 될 것이기 때문입니다. 그런 표현들, 싹이 나고 씨의 이름(정체성)과 같은 열매를 맺지 못한다면 그것이 죽은 것이라는 것입니다.

우리가 성경을 통해서 예수님을 알고자 하는 것은 예수님에 대하여 알게 되면 그 알게 된 이미지가 우리 안에 들어오기 때문입니다. 그렇데 되면 우리 안에 심긴 그 예수 그리스도의 이미지가 땅에 심긴 씨앗이 되는 것입니다. 흙으로 만들어진 인생 안에 심겨진 씨가 있는 사람은 예수님의 삶과 또한 먼저 그 씨가 생명이 된 사람들의 삶을 봄으로 자기 안에 있는 씨가 싹이 나게 됩니다. 그것이 바로 성령으로 잉태되는 것입니다. 그렇게 싹이 난 그리스도의 생명은 반드시 씨앗이 가진 유전적 특성을 보이게 됩니다. 그러므로 그리스도의 씨가 심겼다면 반드시 그리스도와 같은 특성을 나타내게 된다는 것입니다. 그것이 바로 성경이 말씀하시는, 야고보 사도가 말씀하시는 <행함>입니다.

성경이 말하는 과부나 고아나 가난한 사람이 하나님의 의에 대한 것이라는 것을 아는 사람은 육신으로 가난하든 부자든, 과부든 남편이 다섯이 있든, 아버지가 있든 없든 가리지 않고 그리스도의 도를 전하기 위해서라면 예수님께서 십자가를 지시듯 자기 가진 모든 것을 나누고 섬기는 삶을 살 것입니다. 그것이 바로 행함이나 외모에 무관하게 그 믿음이 나타날 것이라는 것이 야고보 사도의 말씀인 것입니다. 그것이 바로 하나님 앞에서 정결한 것입니다.

그러므로 말씀과 그리스도의 도가 행동으로 나타나지 않는다면, 매일 모여서 말씀을 공부하고 듣고 외운다 해도 아무 소용이 없는 것입니다. 교회에서 성경을 공부하기만 하고, 교인들끼리 모여서 그것을 나누고 즐기는 것 까지는 할 수 있는데, 정작 세상은 타락한 것이라고 외면하고 멀리하는 것은 그리스도의 도가 없는 것입니다. 예수님께서는 하나님을 알지 못하는 사람들을 위하여 십자가를 지셨는데, 십자가를 지고 따라가겠다는 사람들은 그 십자가의 도를 공부하고 서로 말하고 듣기만 하는 신앙의 모양이 다 이 야고보 사도가 경계하는 모습인 것입니다.

성경을 공부하고 교회에 모여서 그것으로 서로의 삶을 나누는 것은 아주 경건한 신앙의 모습 같지만 실상은 자신을 속이는 것입니다. 그것이 좋은 신앙생활이라고 착각하고 있는 것입니다. 그리스도의 도가 심긴 사람들은 말로서 신앙생활을 하지 않습니다. 세상을 타락했다고 멀리하고 외면하지 않습니다. 세상이 믿는 사람을 보고 ‘참 하나님의 아들이구나!’라고 증거하지 않으면 누가 증거 할 것입니까? 

그러므로 진정으로 그리스도의 도를 아는 사람은 모여서 성경공부만 하거나, 말로서 모든 것을 하려하거나, 반대로 행동으로 하나님의 의를 얻으려 하지 않습니다. 자기 안에 심긴 그리스도의 도가 생명이 되어 그 생명의 본성이 나타나는데 그 나타남을 막을 수 없는 사람을 말하는 것입니다. 예수님께서 십자가를 지시지 않을 수 없었던 것과 같이 이것은 본성에 관한 것입니다.
