(야고보서 1:12-18) 자기 안에서 나오는 시험을 이기는 자

야고보서는 시작할 때에 ‘시험’을 이야기했습니다. 하지만 앞에 나온 시험과 12절 이하에 나오는 시험은 좀 성격이 다릅니다. 2절에 나오는 시험은 ‘만나는 시험(face trials)’이고, 12절 이하에 나오는 시험은 ‘사람 안에서 나오는 시험(temptation)’이라 할 수 있습니다. 특히 야고보 사도는 13절에서 ‘하나님께 시험을 받는다고 하지 말라’고 하고 있습니다. 하나님은 친히 사람을 시험하지 않으시기 때문이라고 밝히고 있습니다.

이 유혹이라고 할 수 있는 시험은 사람 안에서 나오는 것입니다. 사실 사람이 겪는 모든 문제는 다 자기 안에서 나오는 것입니다. 사람 안에서 문제가 나온다는 것은 사람이 문제를 만들어낸다는 것이 아니라, 사람이 어떤 기준을 가지고 있으면 그 기준으로 인하여 모든 문제가 발생한다는 것입니다. 어떤 세계에 대하여 기준이 없는 사람은 그 세계로 인하여 문제를 겪지 않기 때문입니다.

프로야구나 배구와 같은 스포츠를 예로 든다면, 어떤 팀을 좋아하고 이겨야한다는 생각(기준)을 가지고 있으면 일희일비하게 되지만, 그렇지 않고 응원하는 팀도 없고 그 종목에 관심이나 기준이 없다면 그 종목으로 인하여 화를 내거나 주장하거나 맘 상하는 일은 절대로 없는 것과 같은 것입니다. 그렇듯 자기 안에 세상의 어떤 것에 대한 기준이 있으면 반드시 그 기준으로 인하여 곤고한 일을 겪게 됩니다.

그와 같이 사람이 유혹을 받는 것 역시 그렇습니다. 사람이 시험을 받는 것이 그렇다는 것입니다. 사람 안에 욕심이 그 뿌리라는 것입니다. 그리고 그 욕심도 어떤 기준에서 시작됩니다. 좋은 시계에 욕심을 가지고 있는 사람은 ‘나는 어떤 수준 이상의 시계를 가져야 한다.’고 생각하고 있기 때문입니다. 그런 생각이 없는 사람은 시계에 대하여 욕심을 내지 않습니다. 그러면 당연히 좋은 시계로 인한 유혹이나 시험을 받지 않는 것입니다.

시험을 참는 자는 복이 있도다 이것에 옳다 인정하심을 받은 후에 주께서 자기를 사랑하는 자들에게 약속하신 생명의 면류관을 얻을 것임이니라(약 1:12)

야고보 사도께서 ‘시험을 참는 자는 복이 있다’고 하는 것은 결국 자기 안에 기준이 없고, 욕심이 없는 사람은 복이 있다는 것입니다. 그리고 자기 안에 기준이 없다는 것을 하나님 앞에 인정을 받으면 생명의 면류관을 주신다는 것입니다. 그것은 주께서 자기를 사랑하는 사람이라는 증거라는 것입니다. 사랑하는 자에게 약속하셨다는 것입니다.

생명의 면류관은 생명을 가진 이가 받는 것입니다. 그리고 그 생명의 면류관은 그 면류관을 주시는 이가 생명으로 여기기에 생명의 면류관을 주는 것입니다. 금메달을 수여하는 것은 금메달을 주는 사람이 받는 사람을 금메달에 합당한 사람으로 보기 때문인 것과 같습니다. 그렇다는 것은 결국 주께서 생명이 있다고 여기는 사람에게 주시는 것이 바로 생명의 면류관이라는 것입니다.

이 모든 것을 종합해 본다면 자기 안에 기준이 있어서 그 기준 이상이 되려는 욕심으로부터 일어나는 유혹을 이기는 사람은 하나님이 보실 때 살아 있다고 여기는 사람이므로 하나님께서 약속하신 생명의 면류관을 주신다는 것입니다. 즉 하나님께서는 자기 안에 기준 없는 사람을 생명이 있는 사람으로 보신다는 것입니다.

앞에서 잠깐 언급한 것과 같이 사람의 모든 죄는 결국 욕심에서 비롯됩니다. 욕심이란 자기 분량 이상의 것을 가지려는 것인데, 이는 하나님이 주신 자기 분량보다 자기가 가진 기준을 더 관철시키려는 마음인 것입니다. 알고 보면 선악과 역시 그것입니다. 하나님께서 정한 자리를 떠나서 하나님께서 만드신 세상을 보고 선함과 악한 것을 나누는 마음을 가졌다는 것이 바로 욕심의 조상입니다.

오직 각 사람이 시험을 받는 것은 자기 욕심에 끌려 미혹됨이니 욕심이 잉태한즉 죄를 낳고 죄가 장성한즉 사망을 낳느니라(약 1:14-15)

사람이 사망 가운데 있다는 것은 육신이 죽었다는 것이 아니라, 하나님이 보실 때 살았다고 할 수 없는 것이라는 것입니다. 즉 하나님께서 만드신 목적이 나타나지 않는 사람은 시간을 알려주지 못하는 시계처럼 죽은 것이라는 것입니다. 그 죽음과 사망은 당연히 죄로 인함이고, 그 죄는 욕심으로 인함이라는 것입니다. 

그리고 그 욕심이 사람을 시험하는 것이라고 하는 것입니다. 그러니 그 시험을 이기지 못했다는 것은 죄를 지은 것이고, 그러면 사망 가운데 있게 되는 것이라는 것입니다. 그러나 반대로 시험을 이긴 사람은 하나님께서 보실 때 살아 있다고 할 수 있는 사람이므로 약속하신 생명의 면류관을 주신다는 것입니다.

(James 1: 12-18) Those who overcome the temptations that come within themselves

At the beginning, James spoke of the 'test'. However, the exam shown in the previous section and the exam shown in section 12 and below are somewhat different. The test given in v. 2 is called "face trials", and the test given in v. 12 below is called "temptation". In particular, the Apostle James says in verse 13, 'Do not say that you are tempted of God.' God says he does not test people personally.

This temptation is a test that comes out of man. In fact, all the problems a person experiences are in him. A problem in a person does not mean that a person makes a problem, but if a person has a certain standard, that problem causes all problems. It is because people who do not have a standard for a world do not experience problems because of the world.

If you have sports such as professional baseball or volleyball, if you have the idea that you should like and win a certain team, you will be at a loss, but if you do not have a cheering team and you do not have interest or criteria, It's the same thing that never gets angry, assertive, or upset. As such, if you have a standard for something in the world, you will have a hard time due to that standard.

So is a person being tempted. That is, people are being tested. In man, greed is its root. And that greed begins on some standards. A person who is greedy for a good watch thinks, 'I must have a watch above a certain level.' A person without such a thought does not greedy about the clock. Then, of course, you will not be tempted or tested by a good watch.

Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. (James 1:12)

James, an apostle, says, "Blessed are those who bear the temptations," and there is no standard in themselves, and blessed are those who are not greedy. And if you are recognized before God that you have no standards in you, you are giving a crown of life. It is a proof that the Lord is the one who loves him. He promised to the beloved.

The crown of life is received by the one who has life. And the crown of life is to give the crown of life to those who give the crown to the crown of life. A gold medal is like a gold medalist because he sees a person as worthy of a gold medal. That is to say, it is the crown of life that the Lord gives to those who think there is life.

If we put all these together, the one who overcomes the temptations that arise from the desire to be above the standard because there is a standard in him is the one who thinks that God is alive when he sees it, so he gives the crown of life that God promised. In other words, God sees a man who has no basis in him as a person with life.

As mentioned before, all the sins of a person come from greed. Greed is to have more than one's self, and it is a mind that wants to carry more of the standard that God has given him. If you know, it is also good and evil. It is the ancestor of greed that we have a mind to leave God's place, to see the world God has made, and to share goodness and evil.

But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. (James 1: 14-15)

The fact that a person is in death is not that the body is dead, but that God can not live when he sees it. In other words, a person who does not show God's purpose is dead like a clock that can not tell time. The death and death are of course sin, and the sin is of greed.

And that greed is to test people. So, if you failed to win the test, you are guilty, and then you are in death. But, on the other hand, the person who won the test is a person who can be said to be alive when God sees it, so he gives the crown of the promised life.
