모압의 침공

사사 옷니엘이 죽고 나자 이스라엘 백성들은 다시 하나님 앞에서 악을 행하였습니다. 이는 참 보는 사람으로 하여금 한심할 정도입니다. ‘그렇게 고생해 놓고 또 하나님께 범죄 하나?’ 싶겠지만 이것은 이유가 있습니다. 사사가 죽고 없다는 것입니다. 이는 우리의 마음에 하나님의 신이 없어지면 하나님께 범죄 한다는 것입니다. 즉 <하나님의 신이 없는 것 = 하나님께 범죄>라는 것을 말씀하시는 것입니다.

성경 말씀은 우리에게 하나님의 영이 함께 한 상태는 어떻고, 그렇지 않은 상태는 어떤지를 늘 설명하십니다. 그렇다고 그 모양새를 유지하면 속이 바뀌는 것이라고 말씀하시는 것이 아닙니다. 겉의 모양은 그 속에 있는 것이 표현된 것이므로 겉의 어떠함은 속의 무엇이 표현된 것인지를 알 수 있다는 것입니다. 이스라엘 안에 하나님의 영이 함께하는 사사가 없으니 이스라엘이 하나님 앞에서 악을 범하더라는 것입니다. 즉 하나님의 영이 없다는 것, 그것이 바로 하나님 앞에 악한 것이라는 것입니다.

그랬더니 이번에는 모압 족속이 와서 이스라엘을 괴롭혔다는 것입니다. 모압 족속은 성경에 그 기원이 분명하게 기록된 족속입니다. 아브라함의 조카 롯이 소돔과 고모라가 멸망할 때에 동굴에 피했을 때 롯의 두 딸이 그 아비에게 술을 먹이고서 동침하여 나은 아들이 모압과 암몬 족속의 시조가 되었다고 창세기 19장에 기록되어 있습니다.

이스라엘 백성들이 악을 행하였더니 모압 족속이 쳐들어왔다는 것은 이스라엘 백성들이 하나님 앞에서 모압의 본성과 같은 마음을 가지고 있었다는 것입니다. 모압의 본성이란, 자기 스스로 하나님의 아들이 되려는 마음을 가진 신앙입니다. 모압은 롯의 큰 딸이 그 아비와 동침하여 낳은 아들입니다. 롯의 큰 딸은 이렇게 말했습니다.

큰 딸이 작은 딸에게 이르되 우리 아버지는 늙으셨고 이 땅에는 세상의 도리를 좇아 우리의 배필 될 사람이 없으니 우리가 우리 아버지에게 술을 마시우고 동침하여 우리 아버지로 말미암아 인종을 전하자(창 19:31-32)

큰 딸의 생각에 하나님을 믿는 사람이라고는 아버지와 자신들 밖에 없고, 자신들로 하여금 하나님의 믿는 후손을 낳게 할 배필은 없다고 생각했습니다. 그래서 자기 딴에는 하나님의 자손을 이어갈 목적으로 아버지를 취하게 하여 동침하여 낳은 아들이 바로 모압니다.

또한 모압이 쳐들어왔다는 것은 오늘 우리가 그 마음 안에 스스로 하나님의 아들이 되려하고, 하나님의 일을 걱정하는 마음이 들어왔다는 것이기도 합니다. 그런 마음을 가지고 있다면 그 심령에 분란이 일어납니다. 또 그런 마음을 가진 사람들끼리 다툼도 일어납니다. 교회 안에서 서로 하나님의 일이라며 분쟁하는 것이 바로 이것이기도 합니다. 그것은 상당한 괴로움을 주는 일이라는 것입니다.

이런 모든 것, 모압이 이스라엘에 쳐들어왔다는 것, 우리 안에 하나님의 일을 걱정하고 자신이 나서서 해결하려는 마음은 바로 하나님의 신이 없기 때문이라는 것을 말씀하고 있습니다. 하나님의 신(의)이 임한 사사가 죽고 이스라엘 안에, 내 심령 안에 없으니 일어나는 일이라는 것입니다. 하나님의 일을 걱정하는 것이 바로 하나님의 신이 없는 것이라는 것입니다.

하나님은 온전하시고, 아무리 하나님께서 무능하다 할지라도 적어도 하나님이 만드시고 뜻을 두신 세상을 경영하시는 것에 부족하고 모자람이 있는 분은 아닙니다. 그런데 사람들은 ‘하나님은 일은 이렇게 해야 한다.’, ‘그렇게 하면 안 된다.’고 하는 것은 물론이고, 하나님을 믿는 사람을 향하여 이런 저런 판단과 비판을 합니다. 그러면 안 된다는 것입니다. 그러면 하나님을 믿는 아들을 낳을 수 없다는 것입니다.

그런 마음이 예수님을 십자가에 못 박았고, 그런 마음에 대하여 많은 서신서에서 형제를 판단하지 말라고 말씀하시는 것입니다. 왜냐하면 그런 마음이 바로 모압 족속의 본성이고, 그런 마음은 그 심령에 하나님의 의가 없는 마음이기 때문입니다.
