모압을 물리친 왼손잡이 사사 에훗

이스라엘 백성들이 출애굽을 할 때에 하나님께서는 모세를 택하시고 모세를 바로에게 보내셨습니다. 그리고 처음 바로의 술사들과 마주쳤을 때 아론의 지팡이가 뱀이 되었을 때에 애굽의 술사들도 그 지팡이들도 뱀이 되었는데, 그 때 아론의 지팡이였던 뱀이 다른 뱀들을 잡아먹는 일이 있었습니다. 둘 다 지팡이가 뱀이 되었지만 하나님의 명을 받은 대로 던진 지팡이가 애굽(모든 이방의 상징) 술사들의 막대기를 다 먹어 버린 사건이었습니다.

사사 에훗은 그 이름의 의미가 ‘오른손이 갇힌 자’라는 좀 애매한 의미를 가지고 있는데, 이를 이해시키는 그의 특성이 나오는데 그것은 그가 왼손잡이였다는 것입니다. 이스라엘 백성들의 심령에 모압 같은 마음이 있으니 모압이 쳐들어 온 것 같이 에훗이 왼손잡이라는 것도 모압 족속을 쳐서 이기는 것과 상관이 있습니다. 모압 족속의 기원이 바로 여자의 뜻에 의하여 얻은 아들로부터 난 족속이기 때문입니다. 왼손이나 여자나 다 형식을 나타내는 것이기 때문입니다.

성경에서 하나님은 그 능력을 보이실 때 늘 ‘오른손’으로 능력을 보이십니다. 하나님은 영이시기에 몸이 없으신데 오른손은 어떤 손일까요? 우리 같은 오른손이 있다면 적어도 그 손의 그림자는 있을 텐데 하나님은 회전하는 그림자도 없다고 하셨습니다. 그것은 오른쪽이란 의로운 것이라는 의미를 나타내기 때문입니다. 그리고 그에 상응해서 왼손은 의와 다른, 곧 형식에 관한 것이란 의미가 있습니다. 

(때로 사람들은 왼손은 의롭지 않은 것이라고만 생각하는데 그것은 불의하다는 의미라기보다 의와 대응 되는 것, 즉 의가 나타난 형식이라는 의미라고 할 수 있습니다.)

애굽의 술사들이 지팡이로 만든 뱀을 하나님의 뜻에 의하여 뱀이 된 지팡이가 다 먹어 버렸다는 것은 하나님의 명이 시행된 행동이 행동으로 의를 이루려는 것을 이겼다는 것입니다. 다시 말해서 행위로 의롭게 되겠다는 행동을 심령 안에 있는 의가 나타난 행동이 이겼다는 것입니다. 그것이 더 온전하다는 것입니다.

사사 에훗은 왼손잡이이나 하나님의 신이 임한 사사이고, 반면에 모압 족속은 형식의 상징인 여자의 뜻에 의하여 낳은 아들, 즉 형식과 행동으로 의로워지겠다는 본성을 가진 민족입니다. 즉 사사 에훗과 모압 족속이 만났다는 것은 하나님의 의가 왼손 곧 행위와 형식으로 표현되는 것과, 딸이 아버지의 씨를 훔친 족속 곧 형식으로 의에 이르려고 한 족속의 만남이라는 것입니다. 그리고 그 결과 사사 에훗이 이겼다는 것입니다. 아론의 지팡이가 애굽 술사의 지팡이를 먹어 버린 것과 같이.

많은 사람들은 하나님의 일을 걱정합니다. 모압과 암몬을 낳은 롯의 딸들과 같이. 롯의 딸들은 소돔과 고모라가 멸망당하고서 남은 하나님의 백성이 자기 아버지 밖에 없으니 하나님 백성이 후손이 끊어질 지경이 되었으니 ‘하나님은 큰 일 났다.’며 자기(여자와 형식)들이 나서서 하나님의 백성이 끊어질 지경을 해결하려고 했습니다. 행위와 형식으로 하나님의 일을 걱정하고 해결하려고 한 것입니다. 

오늘날 기독교인들이 나라를 걱정한답시고 정당을 만들고, 예배를 드리는데 부족할까 싶어 교회를 화려하게 만들고, 심지어 교회 안에서 서로 다른 의견을 하나님의 뜻이라며 그 뜻을 지켜야만 하나님을 영화롭게 하는 것이라며 다투다 교회가 갈라지는 것은 이제 흔한 일이 되었습니다. 그렇게 사람들이 하나님의 일을 걱정하고 있습니다.

그렇게 사람들은 자기 안목으로 하나님의 일을 걱정합니다. 그리고는 자신이 나서서 하나님의 일을 하려고 합니다. 그런 모든 생각들이 바로 모압과 암몬과 같은 본성입니다. 그리고 그런 본성은 자연스럽게 행위로 의로워지려는 믿음의 형태를 보입니다. 모압과 암몬이 누굽니까? 딸이 아버지의 씨를 훔치듯이 나은 아들들입니다. 그와 같이 사람들이 행위와 형식을 화려하게 하므로 하나님의 일을 한다고 믿는 것입니다. 바리새인들이 율법을 지킨 것도 그것입니다. 그리고 그들은 하나님의 아들을 죽였습니다. 다른 이유가 아니라 자신들이 지키는 율법대로 하지 않으면 하나님의 일이 아닌 것이라고 주장했기 때문입니다.

이런 본성이 많은, 아니 대부분의 기독교(교리화 된 종교 단체) 믿음 안에 있습니다. 이런 안목이 있으면 자연스럽게 모압과 암몬 족속의 본성이 자기 안으로 들어온다는 것입니다. 그때에 하나님의 의가 함께하는 사사가 나타나서 그것을 이기는데 그것을 보니 하나님의 의가 왼손 곧 형식으로 표현된 그 행함이 이기더라는 것입니다.

사람들은 늘 이런 행동을 하면 하나님께서 기뻐하시고, 이런 믿음을 가지면 하나님께 영광이 된다면서 행동합니다. 그 행동의 근간이 성경을 문자래도 지키는 것입니다. 그러나 그것이 율법적인 신앙입니다. 그것도 문제인데 더 나아가서 그 율법대로 하지 않으면 하나님의 일이 되지 않는다고 걱정합니다. 

그러나 하나님의 일과 성경의 모든 말씀과 믿음의 행위는 하나님의 의와 생명이 사람 본성 안에 있으면 그 본성이 나타난 것입니다. 군복을 입어 군인이 되는 것이 아니라 군인이라서 군복을 입듯이, 하나님의 의가 임한 사사의 왼손, 곧 하나님의 의가 표현된 행동이 온전한 것이라는 것입니다. 사사 에훗이 모압 족속을 이겨내는 것은 바로 그 이유 때문입니다.

그러므로 사람은 자신이 하나님의 일을 걱정할 것이 아닙니다. 사람은 하나님의 의를 표현하는 존재이지 하나님의 의를 만들어가는 존재가 아닙니다. 집행하는 존재도 아닙니다. 그런데 사람들이 하나님을 믿기 시작하면 마음에 하나님을 걱정하는 마음이 생겨납니다. 형식이 내용을 변화시키려고 한다는 것입니다. 바로 그 본성을 이기는 것, 그것은 다름이 아니라 하나님의 신이 심령에 임하므로 사사가 그 하나님의 의와 뜻을 표현하므로 이겨낸다는 것입니다. 왜냐하면 하나님의 의가 그 안에 있으면 그 의가 행위로 나타나기 때문입니다. 그리고 그 법이 바로 사람이 존재하는 이유고 하나님께서 사람을 지으신 목적입니다. 즉 우리가 사는 목적이고, 우리 행동의 법이라는 것입니다.
