많은 신앙인들은 신앙으로 세상을 바꾸려고 합니다. 심지어 정당을 만들기도 하고, 목사가 정당의 개혁을 맡기도 합니다. 의아한 것은 크게 진보와 보수로 나눌 때 양쪽 모두 하나님의 이름으로 뭔가를 하려 한다는 것입니다. 한정된 서울대 입시에 많은 종교의 신앙인들이 자기 자녀의 합격을 기도하는 것과 같이 말입니다. 

정치적으로 격변하는 한국의 상황뿐 아니라 세상의 많은 문제들을 성경이 해결할 수 있을 것이라는 기대를 가지고 그 기대를 믿음으로, 다시 그 믿음으로 변화를 일으키고자 하는 사람들이 많습니다. 그런데 그런 노력은 어제 오늘의 이야기가 아닙니다. 따지고 들자면 중세 이전부터, 아니 예수님의 때 그 이전부터 있었던 것입니다. 그런데 아직 세상은 여상합니다. 아직도 세상이 바뀌어야 한다는 소리가 그치지 않았으니 말입니다.

하나님을 믿는 사람도 정치적인 성향이 있고, 사회 문제에 관심이 있기 때문에 그런 것에 하나님께서 역사해주시기를 바라는 것은 어쩌면 당연한 것인지 모릅니다. 그렇지만 여기에는 분명히 할 것이 있습니다. 나의 바람을 하나님께서 이루어주시기를 바라는 것인지, 아니면 하나님께서 세상을 경영하시는 그 경영함에 자신이 순종할 것인지를 결정해야 한다는 것입니다.

아쉽게도 대부분의 사람들은 자기가 바라보는 관점이 하나님의 이름으로 관철되기를 바랍니다. 보수적인 정치 성향을 가진 사람은 정치가 보수적이기를 바라면 하나님께 기도하고, 진보적인 성향을 가진 사람 또한 자기가 바라는 대로 사회가 진보적이길 바라면서 하나님께 기도한다는 것입니다. 하지만 이것은 양쪽 모두 하나님을 자기 뜻을 이루는 도깨비 방망이로 볼 뿐이 하나님께 순종하고자 하는 것은 아닙니다.

그럼에도 불구하고 세상은 바뀔 필요가 있습니다. 어떤 세상이 바뀌어야 하느냐 하면 각 개인의 세상이 바뀔 필요가 있습니다. 이것은 예수님께서 이 땅에 오신 목적이기도 합니다. 왜냐하면 예수님께서 오시므로 사람들에게 눈에 보이는 세상이 아닌 하나님의 세계가 열리게 되었기 때문입니다. 창세기가 말씀하시는 세계는 다름이 아니라 “하나님의 세계”이기 때문입니다. 즉 각 사람에게 하나님의 세계가 열리면, 그 하나님의 법과 의로 살게 될 것이고, 그런 사람들이 모이면 세상은 바뀌는 것이기 때문입니다. 세상은 그렇게 바뀌면 바뀌겠지만 다르게는 절대 바뀌지 않을 것입니다. 왜냐하면 사람들이 가진 기준과 의는 서로 다르기 때문입니다.

성경 사사기를 지나면서 하나님께서는 왕을 바라는 이스라엘 백성들의 바람을 못 마땅하게 여기셨습니다. 하나님께서 왕을 세우는 것을 기뻐하지 않으신 것은 사람들의 문제는 왕이 없어서가 아니라, 각 사람이 자신을 다스리는 왕이 되지 못해서라는 것을 알고 계시기 때문입니다. 사람이 자기 자신을 다스리는 왕이 되고, 그런 사람들이 모인다면 따로 왕이 필요 없기 때문입니다.

그런데 사람들은 왕을 지나서 제도적으로 대표자를 뽑고 정치를 만들었습니다. 그것은 자기 자신을 다스리는 문제를 자기 밖에서 해결하려는 것입니다. 자기 밖에서 이 문제를 해결하려고 하는 것은 눈에 보이는 것을 본질로 보는 안목을 인함입니다. 눈에 보이는 모든 것은 눈에 보이지 않는 것이 나타난 것인데, 그 보이지 않는 것이 근원이라 여긴다면 자기 자신도 돌아보아서 자기 안에 있는 것을 바꾸면 겉도 바뀐다는 것을 알 텐데 그것을 외면하니 자기 밖의 세상이 바뀌면 세상이 바뀔 것이라고 생각하는 것입니다.

예수님께서 ‘세상을 이기었노라’하신 것을 생각해 봅시다. 예수님은 세상의 권세에 의하여 죄인이 되어 십자가에 달려 돌아가셨는데 왜 세상을 이겼다고 하셨을까요? 십자가에 달려서 고통 중에 “다 이루었다고”고 하신 것도 그렇습니다. 물론 사람들은 예수님께서 부활하셨기에 이긴 것이라고 합니다. 하지만 예수님께서는 부활하시기 위하여 죽으신 것이 아니라, 세상의 권세에 의하여 죽임을 당했기에 부활하신 것입니다. 죽지 않았다면 부활이 뭔 소용이겠습니까?

예수님의 이김과 다 이루심은 세상의 변화가 아닙니다. 설사 예수님이 부활하심이 이기심이라고 쳐도, 그 뒤로도 사람들은 단 한 순간도 예외 없이 세상은 바뀌어야 한다는 세대로 이어져 오고 있습니다. 그렇게 본다면 예수님이 세상을 바꾸시는 것은 대 실패입니다. 최소한 고객 만족은 못 이루신 것입니다. 사람들은 여전히 세상이 바뀌길 기도하고 있으니 말입니다.

그래서 생각해보면 사람들이 예수님의 이름으로 세상이 바뀌길 기도하는 것은 참 아이러니 한 것입니다. 그것은 “예수님 당신이 와서 십자가에 달렸지만 세상은 바뀌지 않았으니, 지금이라도 뭐 어떻게 좀 해 보지?”라는 요구라고 할 수 있습니다. 예수님께서 세상을 이기신 것과 다 이루신 것이 자기 믿음이라면 이제 와서 다시 예수님의 이름으로 또 신앙의 관점으로 세상을 바꾸어 달라고 하는 것을 ‘예수! 당신은 실패했구만, 다시 해 보지?’가 아니면 어떻게 봐야하겠습니까? 

세상은 절대 바뀌지 않을 것입니다. 왜냐하면 하나님은 온전하시기 때문입니다. 지금 이 세상이 하나님이 실수하시는 것이 아닌 다음에서야 항상 같을 것입니다. 다만 바뀌어야 하는 것은 세상을 보는 사람들의 안목 그것이 바뀌어야 하는 것입니다. 그 안목이 바뀐다는 것은 자기 세상이 바뀌는 것입니다. 그리고 그런 사람들이 모이면 그 주변의 세상은 바뀔 것입니다. 그런 변화는 세상의 풍조와 시대의 흐름에 무관할 것입니다. 어떤 상황이라도 그런 변화는 늘 있고 힘이 있을 것이라는 것입니다. 그것이 예수님이 이기신 이김이기 때문입니다.

“어둠은 물러가라고 외쳐서 물러가는 것이 아니라, 작은 한 줄기 빛이 있으면 물러가는 것”이라 했습니다. 하나님을 믿는 신앙이 온전히 사람 안에 있으면 각 사람의 안목이 바뀔 것입니다. 안목이 바뀌면 그 사람의 세상이 바뀐 것입니다. 그렇게 세상이 바뀐 사람이 모이면 세상은 바뀔 것입니다. 그리고 이 세상이 온전한 것은 그렇게 하나님이 바라시는 대로 자기의 안목이 바뀌는 사람은 어제나 오늘이나 영원토록 늘 나오기 때문입니다. 그게 하나님께서 세상을 만드신 목적이니까…

People who believe in God are politically inclined and interested in social issues, so it may be natural to expect God to work on them. But there is definitely something to be done here. My desire is for God to fulfill my breeze, or whether God will obey his own management of the world.

Unfortunately, most people want their viewpoint to be seen in the name of God. A person with a conservative political orientation is to pray to God if he wants the politics to be conservative, and also to those who have a progressive tendency and pray for God as hoping that society is progressive. The world will never change. Because God is perfect. Now this world is not always God's fault, but it will always be the same. 사람이 스스로 이성이라는 것을 가지고 생각하면서부터 자기가 옳다고 여기는 것을 관철시키려 살다가 인생이란 조성하신 이가 있다는 것을 알고 그의 뜻을 자기 존재의 이유와 목적으로 알고 살아가게 되는 것이 바로 사람에게 있어 가장 핵심적인 기적이라는 것입니다. 하나님의 뜻으로 사는 삶이 바로 하나님의 아들이기 때문입니다. 이는 하나님의 의가 삶으로 표현되는 영이 심령 안에 생명이 되는 것이 하나님의 뜻이 삶이 된 것이기 때문입니다.

바로 그런 사람들, 인생 그 자체가 삶의 목적이라 여기며 살며 자기 존재의 목적을 알지 못하고 하나님 주신 인생을 자기 맘대로 살다가 그런 삶이 세상(바다)에 속한 것이라는 것을 알고서 자신을 돌이키는 것, 그래서 하나님께서 그 구원을 베푸시므로 바다에서 살아나게 되는 것 그것이 바로 기적 중의 기적이라는 것입니다. 하나님이 보실 때 사망 가운데 있다가 하나님이 보실 때 살았다고 할 수 있는 자리로 사람이 그 자리를 옮기는 것, 그것이 요나의 기적이고, 그것이 예수님께서 사람에게 보이시는 유일한 기적인 것입니다.

하나님을 믿는 많은 신앙들은 알게 모르게 세상에 빠져 있습니다. 그것은 하나님께 무엇을 기도하는지를 보면 바로 드러납니다. 하나님께 기도하는 것이 육신이 살아가는 것에 관한 것, 세상에서 살아가는 삶의 안위와 평강과 부유함을 복으로 알고 그것을 구하고, 하나님께 자기가 구하는 것을 얻기 위해서 육신의 본능을 참으면서 행위를 드리고, 아까운 마음을 참으면서 소유를 드리는 것이 그것입니다.

세상의 모든 것은 그 존재하는 목적이 있고, 그 목적을 달성하기 위하여 그 존재의 기능을 유지하고 최대한 능력 있게 만듭니다. 자동차나 전자 기기는 다 각양의 존재 목적이 있기 때문에 급유하고 전기를 공급하는 것이지, 기름을 넣어주기 위해서 자동차를 사거나 만들지 않고, 전기를 공급해 주려고 전기 혹은 전자기기를 만들거나 사지 않습니다. 

그런데 자동차나 전자기기를 그렇게 만들고 사고 사용하는 사람들은 자기 삶에 대해서는 그 삶 자체가 부유해지고, 풍성해지고, 조금이라도 번거롭고 귀찮은 것을 덜 하려하고, 사람들의 모든 노력은 단지 살기 위해서, 그리고 죽지 못해서 살아가는 것에 매몰된 경우가 많습니다. 잘 먹는 것, 잘 입는 것, 건강하고 또 부유해지는 것 그것 자체가 목적이 되었다는 것입니다. 무엇을 위하여 그렇게 되어야함에도 그런 것이 사라진지 오래되었다는 것입니다. 

그것이 바로 하나님의 정체성을 망각한 것입니다. 하나님이 존재의 하나님이라는 것을 안다면, 그러니까 하나님을 낯을 대한다면 사람은 자신이 존재하게 된 이유를 알고자 할 것입니다. 살기 위해서 살아가는 것이 삶의 전부라고 생각하는 것은 기름을 넣어주기 위하여 자동차를 산 것과 같은 것인데도 그렇게들 살아가고 있습니다. 하나님 앞에서 자신이 왜 존재하는지, 왜 먹어야 하며, 왜 건강해야 하며, 왜 돈이 사람에게 필요한지에 대하여 묻지 않는 것입니다. 그것이 바로 하나님의 낯을 피한 것입니다.

그렇게 사람들이 하나님의 낯을 피하면 이르는 곳은 바로 바다 곧 세상이라는 것입니다. 굳이 죄를 범하려 하지 않아도 하나님의 정체성을 외면한다면 그에 대한 유일한 결과는 바로 세상에 던져진다는 것입니다. 즉 하나님의 정체성을 모르는 것이 바로 죄요 사망이라는 것입니다. 하나님의 정체성을 모른다면 당연히 하나님께서 사람 지으신 것을 믿지 않는 것이고, 그렇다면 자기 존재의 정체성도 모르는 사람이기 때문입니다.

우리가 사는 이 세상은 바다에 늘 비유됩니다. 이 바다에 던져졌다는 것, 즉 세상에 던져졌다는 것은 세상의 가치관이 자기 삶을 주관하는 사람이 되었다는 것입니다. 교회도 개인의 신앙도 많은 부분에서 세상의 가치관이 들어와 있는데 그것이 바로 바다에 던져진 것입니다. 세상에서 성공하는 것이 하나님께 영광이라는 것, 먹고 사는 것이 복이고 하나님의 보살핌이라고 여기는 것이 다 그것입니다.

옛날 이스라엘 백성들이 성전에 바알상을 가져다 놓은 것으로 하나님의 진노를 산 것이 아닙니다. 물론 그런 때도 있었지만 대부분은 그렇지 않았습니다. 그럼에도 하나님께서는 선지자들을 보내서 늘 책망하셨습니다. 그것은 그들이 하나님께 제사를 드림이 자기 삶을 위하여 드린 것이기 때문입니다. 마치 예루살렘의 백성들이 예수님께서 자신들을 정치적으로 독립시켜주고, 또 배고픔을 해결해 줄 것이라고 여기고 환호한 것과 같은 것입니다.

This world we live in is always compared to the sea. In many parts of the faith of the church and of the individual, the values ​​of the world come into being, which is thrown into the sea. Success in the world is all about glory to God, blessing to eat and live, and care for God.

It is because they offer sacrifices to God for their own lives. It is as if the people of Jerusalem were acclaimed to believe that Jesus would make them politically independent and resolve hunger.

And now many and most believers are serving God for that purpose. That being said, if you say that God wants you to achieve their purpose, then you are doing it hard. But it is not just faith that is caused by the fear that their purpose will be achieved, and that it is an investment to achieve the purpose. If life is like that, it is thrown into the sea like Jonah.
