다른 신앙은 어떤지 잘 모르겠지만 하나님을 믿고 예수님을 믿는다는 것은 전적으로 사람을 통해서 하나님을 알게 되고, 사람을 통해서 인생의 목적과 삶의 의미를 알게 되며, 사람을 보고서 믿음의 증거와 확신을 가지게 됩니다. 이는 이 신앙의 핵심이라 할 수 있는 예수 그리스도께서 우리와 같은 육신을 가진 사람으로 이 땅에 오셔서 하나님의 형상으로 지어진 사람에게 하나님의 의를 전하셨기 때문입니다.

그러므로 하나님을 믿는 믿음의 증거와 확신은 다른 어느 것도 아닌 사람에게서 얻어야 하는 것입니다. 물론 때로 우리는 사람으로서 할 수 없는 놀라운 기적을 볼 수 있습니다. 하지만 그 기적도 알고 보면 사람을 하나님을 표현하는 사람으로 변화시키는 기초적인 일이지 그것이 믿음의 본질적인 증거는 아닙니다. 만약 기적이 신앙의 본질이라면 예수님께서는 십자가에서 기적을 보이시면서 내려오셨을 것입니다.

따라서 우리는 온라인으로 신앙생활을 하는 한계를 분명히 인식해야 합니다. 온라인으로는 사람의 변화를 인지하기가 쉽지 않기 때문입니다. 이것은 온라인 신앙이 틀렸다는 것이 아닙니다. 그것으로 만족해서 안 된다는 이야기를 하고 있는 것입니다. 왜냐하면 마음에 확신하는 것에 대한 증거는 언제나 사람에게 있다는 것입니다. 하나님께서 사람으로 그 형상을 나타내셨기 때문입니다.

물론 온라인에 나오는 모든 것도 다 사람으로부터 나오는 것입니다. 이런 글도 사람이 쓰는 것이고, 또 동영상으로 보여주는 설교나 예배도 사람이 나오고 사람이 하는 것입니다. 하지만 그것은 온전한 전부가 아닙니다. 이미 설교를 한다고 하면 씻고 화장하고 옷 잘 차려입고 좋은 말로 준비된 모습만 볼 수 있다는 것입니다. 

이 블로그를 쓰는 저도 같습니다. 공개적인 자리라는 인식에 오해할 수 있는 부분이라 생각되면 신중해지고 조심스러워집니다. 속이는 것은 아니지만 아침에 일어나서 씻기도 전의 모습으로 편하게 하는 말은 아니라는 것입니다. 그것은 때로 안식의 모습이 아니기도 합니다. 안식이라면 아무렇게나 말해도 되는 사람 앞에서 아무렇게나 말하는 사람으로 느껴지지 않는다는 것입니다.

이러한 이유로 인하여 우리는 사람에게서 하나님의 형상을 발견하는데 편파적이게 됩니다. 사람이 보여주는 모습 중에서 세상의 가치관으로도 용납될 수 있는 모습, 그 모습과 방법과 말과 모양으로 표현된 하나님의 형상은 그나마 쉽게 수용이 되지만, 일반적으로 사회에서 특히 기존의 종교계에서 용납하기 힘든 표현이나 삶의 모습이 드러나면 이내 사람에 대한 신뢰를 거두기도 한다는 것입니다.

이런 현상은 사실 오늘날에만 있는 것은 아닙니다. 예수님 당시에도 그랬습니다. 예수님께서 죄인들과 먹고 마시는 것을 당시의 바리새인과 제사장들이 용납할 수 없었다는 것입니다. 특히나 종교와 정치가 분리되지 않았던 그 시절에 그렇게 하신 것은 단순하게 종교적 규례를 어기는 정도가 아니라 삶의 질이 달라지는 것임에도 예수님께서는 그렇게 사셨던 것입니다.

예수님께서는 하나님께서 지으신 육신을 가진 사람의 모습 어느 하나도 하나님의 아들이 되는 것에 부족함이 없다는 것을 아셨고, 그런 하나님의 뜻이 육신이 되신 분이셨고, 그것을 전하러 오신 분이기에 사람의 모습을 나누어서 보이신 것이 아니었을 뿐인데, 사람을 세상의 가치관으로 나누어 보는 관점으로 인간의 모습 전부를 보여주니 용서하기 힘든 부분이 있었던 것입니다.

여기서 우리는 사람을 보는 관점이 다른 두 존재가 만나는 것을 봅니다. 그리고 그것은 우리가 사람을 보고서 하나님의 형상을 확인하고 믿음을 확신해가는 이유의 근원을 볼 수 있습니다. 하나님과 사람, 그 두 존재가 사람을 보는 관점이 다르다는 것입니다. 하나님은 지금의 사람의 모습을 온전하게 보고, 사람들은 사람을 온전하게 보지 않는다는 것입니다. 하나님의 말씀(의와 뜻)이 육신이 되어 오신 예수님은 사람의 모습을 전부 보여주셨고, 사람들은 자기 기준으로 사람의 일부분을 추하고 악한 것으로 규정하고 그것을 감추거나 제거해야 한다는 관점을 가지고 있다는 두 가지 관점이 있다는 것입니다.

그런 사람들의 관점은 하나님, 혹은 자신들이 만든 신이 지금 사람의 모습이 아닌 더 나은 존재가 된 사람을 열납하신다는 고상한 설정을 하고 사람으로 하여금 그것을 추구합니다. 그래서 항상 지금 그대로의 모습이 아닌 모습으로 신이라는 존재, 또 그 신과 같은 관점으로 사람인 자신을 볼 것이라는 사람 앞에 나서려고 합니다. 그래서 화장을 하고 사람을 만나고, 단정하게 교회에 가고, 신권으로 헌금을 하려 하는 것입니다. 

그런데 그런 삶에는 결정적인 문제가 있습니다. 그것은 바로 <안식>이 없다는 것입니다. 화장하지 않고 가면 안 된다는 생각이 안식에서 비롯된 것일까요? 그것이 아닙니다. 화장을 해야 예의라는 기준을 통과한다는 자신의 기준과 상대가 가진 기준을 만족한다고 생각하기 때문에 싫어도 그렇게 하는 것입니다. 즉 안식이 없고 싫어도 뭔가를 해야 한다는 것은 지금 이대로는 안 된다는 것이고, 안 되기 때문에 감추는 것입니다. 지금으로는 부족하다는 것입니다.

늘 무엇인가를 해야 하고, 안식이 없고 만족이 없는 신앙을 가지고 있으면 당연히 확신이 없습니다. 아직 자신이 해야 할 것이 남았다는 느낌을 지울 수 없는데 어떻게 현재 자신이 가진 신앙을 온전한 것으로 확신한다는 것은 있을 수 없는 것입니다. 이것이 바로 사람을 보는 관점이 하나님과 다르기 때문입니다. 하나님께서는 사람을 만드시고 보시기에 심히 좋았다고 하셨는데 사람은 그 모습을 부끄러워하는 것입니다.

그러므로 사람이 하나님과 같은 안목을 가지고 본다면 하나님께서 안식하신 것처럼 자신도 안식할 수 있을 것입니다. 안식할 수 있다는 것은 더 이상 남은 것이 없다는 것입니다. 그것이 바로 확신할 수 있는 기본인 것입니다. 이런 자리에 이르지 못했는데 하나님을 믿는 자기 신앙을 확신할 방법은 없는 것입니다. 그래서 신앙은 늘 <노력하는 것>으로 여겨지는 것입니다.

그렇기 때문에 우리는 신앙에서 오프라인으로 만나는 모습이 절대적으로 필요한 것입니다. 사람이 사람을 볼 때 자신이 사람을 어떻게 보고 있는지도 드러나게 될 것이고 그렇게 드러난 모습이 우리가 하나님과 다른 안목을 가졌음을 알게 하여 회개하게 할 것입니다. 그리고 또 무엇보다 그냥 사람의 모습, 세상의 관점으로 볼 때 숨기고 부끄러워하는 그 모습들을 가진 채로 하나님의 의를 표현하는 것을 볼 때 하나님을 온전히 만날 수 있기 때문입니다. 왜냐하면 그것이 사람을 만드신 하나님의 뜻을 온전하게 순종하는 것이기 때문입니다.

온라인 신앙이라는 것은 그렇게 사람을 보고 느끼는데 한계가 있습니다. 물론 우리가 인터넷 상의 카페나 SNS에서 자신의 모습을 숨김없이 나누고 위로할 수 있다면 그것은 좋은 것입니다. 그러나 이는 차이가 있습니다. 사람이 여행을 가서 보는 광경이나 큰 화면이나 사진으로 보는 것은 같은 것이지만, 여행을 가서 보는 사람은 그 광경이 보는 것의 전부이고, 화면으로 보는 사람은 일부분인 것과 같은 차이가 있습니다.

신앙이라는 것은 결국 사람의 문제입니다. 성경의 모든 말씀도 따지고 들면 사람과 하나님이 사람을 보는 관점이 다르므로 인하여 발생한 갈등과 그 갈등을 치유하기 위하여 예수님께서 이 땅에 육신으로 오셔서 하나님께서 사람을 어떻게 보시는지를 십자가를 지심으로 보이신 것입니다.

사람들도 알고 보면 사람 꼴이 싫어서 교회에 가지 않는 온라인 신앙생활을 하는 것입니다. 물론 그 사람 꼴이라는 것이 세상적인 관점으로 사람을 보고 대하는 모습이긴 합니다. 하지만 그런 사람들과의 갈등을 피하여 온라인으로 떠나기만 한다고 문제가 해결된다면 그나마 다행이지만 그렇지 않다는 것이 문제입니다. 

물론 이 블로그와 같이 하나님의 관점으로 사람과 세상을 보는 것을 말하는 곳들도 있습니다. 하지만 이것 역시 보고서 고개만 끄덕인다고 모든 것이 다 된 것은 아닙니다. 그렇게 고개가 끄덕여진 그 말씀이 사람으로 나타나는 것을 볼 때 느끼는 것은 또 다른 세계입니다. 사진으로 본 것을 여행가서 보는 것과 같은 것이 되는 것입니다. 

사람의 신앙은 결국 사람을 보면서 ‘사람이 어제 하지 않던 일을 오늘 하는 것’을 볼 때, 그것이 그의 노력이 아니라 단지 하나님의 말씀을 들었을 뿐인데 그렇게 변하는 것을 볼 때 하나님의 형상이 나타나는 것이고 그것을 본 사람 안에 땅에 씨가 심기듯 그 보았던 이미지가 심기고 그 심긴 것에 성령의 감동이 더해져서 그리스도의 생명이 잉태하는 일이 있어야 하는 것입니다. 

그것이 우리가 가신 신앙의 실체입니다. 그렇게 어제까지 자기가 옳다고 여기던 것을 버리고 오늘 하나님께서 의롭게 여기시는 것을 삶으로 좇아가는 그 모습이 사람의 삶으로 표현되는 것을 보여주고 또 보는 상호관계가 하나님의 존재와 믿음을 확신하게 하는 것입니다. 그래서 그렇게 모인 공동체가 교회가 되는 것입니다. 건물을 세우고 사람을 모아 교회가 되는 것이 아니라, 하나님의 의가 자기 생명이 된 사람이 같은 동족을 찾아 모이므로 된 곳이 교회인 것입니다. 그렇게 서로가 같은 생명을 가지고 사는 것을 보면서 하나님의 은혜를 확증하고, 그 모습을 그 공동체에 속하지 않은 사람들이 보면서 하나님을 발견하고 다시 하나님의 아들이 되어 하나님의 나라가 확장이 되는 것입니다.

우리가 세상의 기준으로 사람을 판단하는 기존의 교회에서 보여주는 모습을 도저히 용납할 수 없어 때로 온라인을 통한 신앙생활을 하기도 합니다. 그리고 많은 경우 교회에 가려고 하지만 정말로 갈 만한 교회를 찾지 못해서 대기 상태로 살기도 합니다. 그러나 어떤 여정이라도 결국은 우리가 서로가 사람으로서, 세상의 가치관으로 볼 때 부끄럽고 때로 추한 그 사람의 모습 그것으로 하나님의 성품을 표현해내는 것을 보지 못하면 하나님을 볼 수도 없고, 하나님을 믿는 자기 신앙의 확신도 늘 요원한 것이 됩니다. 

그러므로 언제가 되었던, 또 때로는 아직 미숙할지라도 사람을 통해서 하나님의 의가 표현되는 것을 볼 때 더 온전한 신앙이 되고 하나님의 영광을 보게 될 것입니다. 물론 그때는 사람을 세상의 기준이 아니라 하나님의 기준, 예수님께서 육신으로 오셔서 보이신 육신의 정체성 그대로를 인정하는 안목으로 봐야할 것입니다.

그렇다면 예수님께서 밝히신 어두움은 어떤 것일까요? 그것은 다름이 아니라 사람의 정체성이라 할 수 있습니다. 사람들이 왜 사는지 모르고, 인생의 목적이 무엇인지 모릅니다. 그래서 인생을 미로와 같다고 하고 ‘암흑 같은 미래’라고도 하는 것입니다. 열심히 살다가 나이가 든 어느 날 “왜 사는가?”, “이러려고 살았나?”는 질문 앞에 섰을 때, 그때 답을 알지 못하는 그 어두움, 그것에 대하여 예수님께서 밝히셨다는 것입니다.

이 블로그에서는 늘 ‘빛은 인식’이라고 말씀드리고 있습니다. 인지하게 되고 알게 되는 것이 바로 빛을 만나는 것이라는 것입니다. 예수님께서 이 땅에 오신 목적은 우리 인생의 존재 목적을 보이시기 위함입니다. 예수님께서 그렇게 오셔야 했다는 것은 예수님이 보이신 인생의 존재 목적을 사람들이 알지 못하고 있었다는 것입니다. 그래서 예수님께서 이 땅에 오시니 그때까지 사람들이 알지 못하던 것이 이제는 알게 되었다는 것입니다. 컴퓨터를 몰라 ‘컴맹’이었는데 잘 사용할 수 있도록 가르쳐 주는 이를 만나서 컴퓨터를 잘하게 되었다는 것과 같은 것입니다. 그래서 예수님께서 빛이라는 것입니다.

그렇다면 그 예수님께서 어떤 사람을 보고 <너는 세상의 빛>이라고 하셨다면 그 사람은 인생의 존재 이유를 알뿐 아니라 그 사람을 보면 다른 사람도 인생의 목적을 알 수 있는 사람이라는 의미입니다. 그러니 예수님께서 그 사람을 보고 빛이라고 하시는 것입니다.

예수님께서 이 세상에 오신 유일한 목적이 인생에게 존재의 이유와 삶의 목적을 알게 하시기 위하여 오셨고, 예수님께서 빛이신 이유가 그 목적 때문인데 예수님께서 다른 것을 빌미로 어떤 사람에게 <너는 빛>이라고 하실 하등의 이유가 없는 것입니다.

사람에 따라서는 인생의 어두움을 경제적으로 어려운 것, 건강이 좋지 않은 것으로 여기는 사람도 많습니다. 예수님께 가서 그것을 구하는 기도를 한다면 그렇게 생각하는 사람입니다. 그런 생각은 인생의 목적을 삶 자체에 두고 있는 것입니다. 현상과 형식이 본질이라고 여기는 것입니다. 그런 생각을 가진 사람이 이 빛과 소금에 대한 말씀을 읽으면 예수님과 같이 우리도 빛과 소금이 되어야 한다고 말하는 것입니다. 하지만 예수님은 그런 어두음의 빛으로 오시지도 않았고 그것은 어두움도 아닙니다. 

그럼에도 불구하고 많은 사람들은 예수님을 자기 육신이 살아가는 삶 자체의 문제를 해결하는 분으로 믿습니다. 그러다보니 예수님을 섬깁니다. 등경 위에 예수님을 모시는 것입니다. 예수님을 그런 문제의 빛으로 여기기 때문입니다. 빛과 어두움에 대한 개념이 틀렸지만 그래도 자신이 빛이라고 생각하기만 하면 높은 곳에 두고 그 빛이 비취는 아래에서 어두워 보지 못했던 것을 보고 인식하고 다스리려 합니다. 그것이 빛에 대한 사람이 취하는 태도입니다.

예수님께서는 세상의 모든 사람이 스스로 빛이라고 여기는 것을 그렇게 등경 위에 둔다고 하셨습니다. 사람은 그런 본성을 기본적으로 가지고 있다는 것입니다. 그런 사람들 중에서 예수님께서 오신 목적을 알고 예수님께서 자신이 스스로 알 수 없었던 인생의 존재 목적과 삶의 의미를 알게 하시는 빛이라는 것을 아는 사람도 역시 예수님을 등경 위에 둡니다.

그리고 그렇게 예수님을 통해서 인생의 목적을 알고 살아가는 사람들, 곧 예수님께서 <너희>라고 하신 이들은 예수님께서 빛이시듯 그들도 빛 된 삶을 사는 것입니다. 그리고 그 사람의 삶은 인생의 존재 목적을 찾는 나그네들에게는 예수님과 같은 빛이 되는 것입니다. 그 사람은 예수님께서 빛이라고 하신 사람들이기 때문입니다.

사실 이런 기조는 인터넷이전에 케이블방송이 보급되면서부터 시작되었는데 처음 시작할 때는 ‘그래도 교회는 가야지’라는 분위기였습니다. 그러니까 교회에 가지 않고 미디어를 활용하여 예배를 드리는 사람들을 수용하기 보다는 권면하는 분위기였지만 이제는 많이 달라져서 오히려 ‘그럴 수밖에 없지’라는 분위기가 되어가고 있습니다. 그 만큼 교회가 교회답지 않아졌다는 이야기이기도 합니다.

저의 이 블로그도 자의반 타의반으로 그런 신앙의 단초역할을 하고 있습니다. 이는 저의 의도이기도 하고 또 의도되지 않은 분위기이기도 합니다. 많은 이들이 성경을 통하여 하나님을 알고자 하여도 ‘(주)그리스도’로 전락한 교회에서 가르쳐주지 않는 성경에 대하여 이야기하고 싶었고, 그 의도를 이 시대 최고의 문명인 인터넷을 활용하겠다고 생각한 것은 당연한 것이라고도 할 수 있기 때문입니다.

그러나 저의 경우 이 블로그가 교회에 가지 않고 이것만 읽기를 바라는 것에 한정된 의도를 가지고 있지는 않습니다. 저는 이 블로그 진정한 교회, 평안한 교회, 목사나 장로 없이도 하나님의 진정한 공동체가 되기를 바랍니다. 교회는 교회를 세우고 사람을 모으는 그런 세상적 단체나 조직이 아닙니다. 하나님의 의가 자기 삶이 된 사람들이 모이다보니 이루어진 공동체가 교회이기에 우리 각 개인이 자신의 삶의 목적과 의미를 회복하게 된다면, 그 존재의 의미와 목적이 하나님의 의를 나타내는 것임을 깨닫게 된다면 사람이 자연스럽게 사람이 있는 곳에 가서 모여 살 듯 하나의 공동체가 될 수밖에 없다는 것을 알고 있기에 그렇게 될 것이라 생각을 합니다.

그러나 그 과정에서 반드시 지나야할 여정이 있습니다. 그것은 다름이 아니라 온라인에서 오프라인으로 오프라인에서 다시 온라인으로 오가는 것이 있을 것입니다. 아니 그래야만합니다. 이는 억지로 그러자는 것이 아닙니다. 생명은 숨을 쉬어야 합니다. 그러나 그 숨은 쉬는 것은 필연이지만 의도적이지 않듯, 신앙이라는 것도 의도하지 않아도 사람이 서로를 마주하는 것은 필연적이라는 것입니다. 

왜냐하면 신앙이라는 것은 결국 사람의 육신으로 하나님의 의를 표현하는 것이고, 육신으로 하나님의 의가 표현되었다는 것은 누군가 그것을 인식했다는 것이기 때문입니다. 인식되지 않은 표현은 아무런 의미가 없는 것이기 때문입니다. 

세례요한이 광야에서 외친 것이 의미가 있는 것은 그 소리 앞에 사람들이 세례를 받으러 왔기 때문입니다. 만약 아무도 세례요한에게 가지 않았다면 세례요한의 외침은 들의 늑대 울음과 다를 것이 없는 것입니다. 아무에게도, 하나님의 형상을 회복해야할 그릇과 같은 사람이 그것을 담아내지 않는데 그 소리가 무슨 의미가 있겠습니까?

사람이라는 존재는 그 자체가 그렇게 되기 위해서, 그것을 위하여 창조된 존재입니다. 하나님께서 그리스도라는 정체성을 세상에 보이시면 그것을 자기 존재의 정체성으로 순종하는 것을 위하여 창조되었다는 것입니다. 그러나 그것으로 끝이 아니라, 그 그리스도의 정체성을 자기 존재의 목적으로 깨달은 사람이 그리스도의 정체성을 살 때 다른 사람이 또한 그것을 인지하고 의미 있게 받아들일 때 그 사람이 그리스도의 성품을 가지고 사는 것이 되는 것입니다. 

아무도 인식하지 못하고 의미 있게 받아들이지 않는데 자기만 그리스도의 본성으로 산다는 것은 다 거짓말입니다. 이 신앙의 구조가 그것이 아니기 때문입니다. 그렇게 보면 사람들 안 보는데서 수련한다는 것은 다 사기입니다. 신앙의 수련이란 결국 사람과의 관계이기 때문입니다. 그러니 사람과의 보편적인 관계인 결혼이나 조직을 구성하고 사는 삶을 떠나 독신으로 금욕적으로 살고, 산이나 시골에 가서 자신들만의 공동체를 만들어 살겠다는 것은 신앙의 근본을 알지 못하는 무식함의 소치일 뿐입니다.

그러므로 결국 신앙이라는 것은 사람을 통해서 의미가 부여될 때 온전해지는 것입니다. 예수님께서도 사람의 육신으로 오셔서 그리스도의 정체성을 그 육신으로 표현하시고, 그것을 육신의 눈으로 보고 들은 사람들의 육신이 다시 예수님과 같이 그리스도의 성품으로 살고 그 모습을 본 또 다른 사람들이 육신의 눈과 귀와 손으로 사람의 육신으로 표현되는 그리스도를 보고서 자기 안에 그 이미지가 심겨지고 그 이미지가 다시 그 사람으로 그리스도로 살아가게 하는 생명의 법을 가진 것이 하나님을 믿는 신앙이기 때문입니다.

그렇듯 하나님께서 경영하시는 이 모든 신앙의 세계는 결국 사람이 사람을 보고서 하나님을 알아가는 세계입니다. 하나님께서 사람을 통하여 자기 형상을 표현하시기로 하셨는데 사람을 보지 않고서 어떻게 하나님을 알 수 있겠습니까? 그럴 수 없습니다. 그게 가능하다면 왜 예수님께서 사람으로 이 땅에 오셨겠습니까? 

이 세계가 바로 사람으로 표현된 하나님의 형상과 이미지를 사람이 자기 존재의 의미로 받아들일 때 존재하게 되는 세계이고, 그런 의미가 부여되는 것이 반복되는 것이 생명이 전해지는 것입니다. 사람을 통해서 보이신 하나님의 정체성을 사람이 받아들이고 그 받아들인 것인 표현되는 것이 하나님께서 사람 지으신 목적이고, 목적이 달성될 때 목적 안에서 살아 있는 존재가 되는 것이 하나님께서 살았다 죽었다 판단하시는 기준이기 때문입니다. 그리고 그 생명이 낳고 낳고를 반복하여 오늘에 이르고 또 영원히 전해지는 것입니다.
