(야고보서 5:1-6) 부한 자들

좀 오래 전에 TV에서 축구공을 좋아하는 남자에 대한 이야기가 방영된 적이 있었습니다. 그는 축구공을 수집하고 있었고, 의미 있는 경기에 사용된 공이나 또 한정 생산된 공을 수집하고 있었습니다. 그런데 그는 그 공을 보기만 했습니다. 집에 고이 모셔두고 잘 닦아주고 보관했습니다. 어린 아들이 공을 차고 싶어도 그가 수집해 놓은 공은 찰 수 없었습니다. 물론 그 자신도 공을 차지 않았고, 축구도 잘 못한다고 했습니다.

축구공은 축구장에서 발로 차고 경기를 하고 사람들이 즐겁게 노는 것에 사용되기 위하여 존재하는 것입니다. 그런데 그 공을 가지고 놀지 않고 모시기만 하는 것은 우상 같기도 하지만 정말로 어리석은 일입니다. 이것은 누가 봐도 어리석은 모습이라는 것을 알 것입니다. 얼마나 그 모습이 답답했으면 그의 아내가 그것을 방송국에 사연으로 보내서 방송이 되었겠습니까? 누가 봐도 참 답답한 일이지만 정작 축구공을 모으는 당사자는 그렇지 않았습니다.

그런데 사람들이 그런 사연을 보면 답답해하면서, 정작 자기 인생이 그렇다는 것은 모릅니다. 이것이 바로 예수님께서 말씀하시는 어두움입니다. 예수님께서 오셔서 인생의 존재 목적을 보이셨는데도 모르고 있기 때문입니다. 축구공은 모셔두기 위한 것이 아니듯, 육신의 삶도, 육신의 건강을 위하고, 육신의 지위와 자존심을 위하고, 육신이 먹고 마시는 것을 위하여 사는 것이 아닙니다. 그런 것은 다 축구공을 차지는 않고 먼지 닦고 모셔두기만 하는 것과 같습니다.

야고보 사도는 부자들을 책망하고 있습니다. 그들은 밭에서 일한 품꾼의 품삯도 주지 않는 자들이라고 했습니다. 그들이 그렇게 하는 것은 땅에서 사치하고 연락(즐거움)하기 위함이라고 했습니다. 즉 축구공을 닦고 모셔두기 위하여 공을 모으는 사람과 같다는 것입니다. 땅의 사치와 연락(즐거움)을 위한 것이라는 것은 삶의 모든 목적이 육신이라는 것입니다. 땅은 곧 육신을 가진 인생이기 때문입니다.

사람들은 자기 눈에 가장 귀한 것, 자신이 가진 의로 볼 때 가장 본질이라고 생각하는 것을 위하여 삽니다. ‘뭐니 뭐니 해도 돈이 최고다.’라는 사람은 돈이 가장 귀한 것이고, 그 돈이 많아야 의롭고 선한 것이라 생각하는 사람입니다. 돈이 육신을 풍요롭게 한다고 믿기 때문입니다. 육신이 목적이라는 것입니다. 본질이 육신 그 자체라는 것입니다.

하지만 존재하는 모든 것은 존재 그 자체가 목적이 아닙니다. 사람이 가진 모든 것 중 그 어느 것도 존재하는 그 자체가 목적인 것은 없습니다. 오만 원짜리 지폐는 그 지폐 자체가 본질이 아닙니다. 오만원이라는 가치가 본질입니다. 금과 은도 그 자체가 목적이 아닙니다. 그것으로 할 수 있는 일이 본질입니다. 그 본질이 금과 은의 가치와 같기 때문에 그것이 귀한 것입니다.

그런데 정작 사람들은 자신이 존재하는 목적은 생각지 않습니다. 그것은 모든 것이 훼손된 것입니다. 즉 사망 가운데 있는 것입니다. 인생이 육신으로 존재하는 것은 그 육신이 어떤 목적을 지니고 있다는 것입니다. 그 육신의 풍요와 안녕과 보전이 존재의 목적이 아니라는 것입니다. 육신을 보전하고 재물이 필요한 이유가 있다면 육신의 사치와 즐거움 때문이 아니라 존재하는 목적을 위하여 필요하기 때문일 뿐입니다. 휘발유가 이동이라는 자동차의 목적을 위하여 필요하듯.

그런데 금과 은을 육신이 존재하는 목적을 달성할 도구로 사용하지 않고 오히려 그 자체가 목적이라 여기며 사는 사람은 금과 은을 모으기 위한 것이라면 악해지는 것도 불사합니다. 왜냐하면 그들의 선은 의나 도덕이나 법이 아니라 그들이 본질로 여기는 금과 은이기 때문입니다. 그래서 그들은 품삯을 착복하는 것입니다. 품꾼이 밉거나 못살게 굴려고 그러는 것이 아니라 그들이 본질로 보는 것은 금과 은 그 자체이기 때문입니다.

금과 은은 원래 녹슬지 않습니다. 그런데 금과 은이 녹슬었다고 하는 것은 인생의 본질을 금과 은으로 보는 사람이 가진 금과 은은 그 목적과 가치를 상실했다는 것입니다. 금과 은은 인생이 존재하는 목적을 위하여 소비되어야 하는 것인데, 오히려 그것을 모으는 것이 목적이 되었기 때문입니다. 축구공을 모아 두기만 하면 보기에는 깨끗하고 보존된 공이지만 목적의 관점에서 보면 아무짝에도 쓸모없는 녹슨 축구공이 되는 것과 마찬가지입니다.

그리고 그것은 옳은 자를 정죄하고 죽이는 것이라고도 말씀하고 있습니다. 하나님께서 옳다고 여기는 자는 금과 은이 목적이 아니라 자신이 가진 모든 것으로 하나님께서 자신을 조성하신 목적을 위하여 사는 사람입니다. 그들은 금과 은뿐 아니라 그들의 존재 자체에 목적이 있음을 알고 모든 것을 주를 위하여 사용하는 사람입니다. 그런 그들을 금과 은과 육신 그 자체가 목적인 자들이 볼 때는 죄인인 것입니다. 부유한 자는 모으나, 옳은 자들은 주를 위하여 쓰기 때문입니다. 또한 부유한 자들이 쓰지 못하게 가졌기 때문에 빼앗은 것입니다.

그리고 이 말씀은 세상에서의 경제 능력을 기준으로 부자에 대한 한정된 말씀이 아닙니다. 야고보 사도의 이 말씀은 인생의 본질을 모르고 있는 모든 사람들, 인생이 존재하는 목적이 분명이 있음에도 오히려 인생 그 자체가 목적으로 치환된 모든 사람들을 말하는 것입니다. 인생 그 자체가 목적인 사람들은 그 현실이 부자가 아니어도 결국은 그것을 꿈꾸는 사람이고, 육신의 삶을 목적으로 여기고 그 목표를 향하여 죽을 힘을 다해 살고 있는 자들이기 때문입니다. 꿈꾸고 달려가는 자들 역시 그 세계에 속한 사람들이기 때문입니다.

야고보 사도는 그런 사람들, 인생의 목적이 인생 자체에 있다고 여겨 금과 은으로 인생을 풍요롭게 하려는 사람과 또 그렇게 된 자들의 금과 은이 자신들을 불사를 것이라고 했습니다. 그것은 인생의 목적을 상실한 것이기 때문입니다. 인생의 목적을 상실했다는 것은 인생을 창조하신 이가 볼 때 아무짝에도 쓸모없는 것이기에 창조주는 그것을 사망으로 보신다는 것입니다. 그리고 사망으로 보는 것을 거두실 리가 없는 것입니다. 그냥 불쏘시개로 쓸 뿐입니다. 즉 하나님의 의가 나타나는 일의 도구로 쓰여질 것이라는 것입니다. 예를 들면 하나님의 의를 나타내기 위하여 완악한 짓을 한 바로 왕이나 사울 왕과 같이 될 것이라는 것입니다.

(James 5:1-6) The wealthy

A long time ago, there was a story about a man who likes a soccer ball on TV. He was collecting soccer balls and collecting balls used in meaningful games or limited production balls. But he only looked at the ball. I left my house at home and wiped it well. Even though his young son wanted to play the ball, he could not catch the ball he had collected. Of course he said he did not play ball and he did not play soccer well.

A soccer ball is meant to be used for kicking and playing in a soccer field and for people to play happily. However, it is idiomatic to do it without playing with the ball, but it is really foolish. This is a foolish sight for anyone. If it was frustrating, how could his wife broadcast it to the station and broadcast it? It is frustrating for anyone to see, but it is not the party collecting the soccer ball.

However, people are frustrated when they see such stories, and do not know that their life is what they are. This is the darkness Jesus is talking about. It is because Jesus does not know that he came and showed the purpose of existence of life. Soccer ball is not meant to be kept, it is not for the physical life, for the physical health, for the body position and pride, for the body to eat and drink. It is the same as if you do not take a soccer ball and wipe away dust.

James the Apostle is rebuking the rich. They said that they did not give the wages of the laborers who worked in the fields. It is said that they do so in order to be luxurious and to communicate (enjoy) on the earth. In other words, it is like a person who collects balls to wipe the soccer ball. For the luxury of contact with the earth (pleasure) is that every purpose of life is a flesh. Because the earth is a life with a physical body.

People live for what they think is the most precious thing in their own eyes, the most essential in their own righteousness. The person who says, 'What is the best money is the best money' is the person who thinks that money is the most precious thing and that the money is good and good at most. I believe that money enriches the body. It is the purpose of the flesh. The essence is the flesh itself.

But everything that exists is not itself a being. Nothing of man has anything to do with itself. A bill of fifty thousand won is not the essence of the bill itself. The value of Oman is the essence. Gold and silver are not the ends themselves. What you can do with it is the essence. It is precious because its essence is equal to the value of gold and silver.

But people do not think about their purpose. It is all damaged. That is, in death. The existence of life in the flesh means that the flesh has a purpose. That the abundance, well-being and preservation of the flesh is not the purpose of existence. If there is reason to preserve the flesh and need wealth, it is not because of the luxury and joy of the body but because it is needed for the purpose that exists. Just as gasoline is needed for the purpose of moving cars.

However, gold and silver are not used as a means of attaining the purpose of the flesh but rather as the purpose itself, and the one who lives is also evil if it is for the gathering of gold and silver. For their goodness is not self-righteousness, morality, or law, but gold and silver, which they regard as their essence. So they are paying their wages. It is not that the hired man hates or hates, but what they see as the essence is gold and silver itself.

Gold and silver are not originally rusty. However, the fact that gold and silver are rusted means that the gold and silver of people who see the essence of life as gold and silver have lost their purpose and value. Gold and silver are the things that life must be consumed for the purpose for which it exists, rather it is the purpose of collecting it. Keeping a soccer ball together is like a rusty soccer ball that is a clean and preserved ball to watch but is useless in terms of purpose.

And it is said that it condemns and kills the righteous. He who believes God is right is not the purpose of gold and silver, but the one in whom God has created himself for all that he has. They are people who use everything for the Lord, knowing that they have purpose in their own existence as well as in gold and silver. It is sinners when they see such things as gold, silver, and the flesh itself. The rich are gathered, but the righteous are for the Lord. It was also taken away because the wealthy have been unable to write.

And this is not a limited word about the rich, based on economic power in the world. The words of James's apostle are all those who are unaware of the nature of life, and all those whose life itself is replaced by purpose, even though the purpose of life is obvious. Those who aim for life itself are those who are not wealthy but who dream of it, who live with the purpose of the physical life and live with the power to die toward that goal. Because those who dream and run are also people who belong to that world.

The Apostle James said that such people, gold and silver of those who would enrich life with gold and silver, and those who believed that the purpose of life was in life itself, would burn themselves. It is because it has lost the purpose of life. The loss of the purpose of life is nothing more than worthless when the creator of life sees it, and the Creator sees it as death. And it can not be taken away from death. I just use it as a firepower. In other words, the righteousness of God will be used as a tool of manifestation. For example, it will be like the king who did the stubborn thing to show the righteousness of God or the king of Saul.
