(야고보서 4:1-10) 주께서 너희를 높이시리라.

성경은 참 많은 것을 이야기하는 것 같지만 실상은 하나입니다. 그것은 바로 <그리스도란 어떤 존재인가?> 하는 것입니다. 그것을 예수님께서 보이셔서 우리는 ‘예수 그리스도’라고 부르는 것입니다. 그리고 그 그리스도의 정체성은 하나님께서 기름을 부어 세운 정체성입니다. 바로 하나님께서 사람을 만드신 목적이 그것입니다.

따라서 성경의 모든 말씀은 하나님께서 말씀하시는 이 사람의 정체성을 사람이 순종하고 받아들이느냐 아니냐에 관한 것입니다. 그것을 받아 들이면 어떤 모습이 되는지. 또 그것을 받아들이지 않은 사람의 삶이란 어떤 것인지에 대하여 말씀하시는 것입니다. 성경을 흔히 복음이라고 하는 것은 우리가 우리 존재의 정체성에 대하여 알지 못하는데 그것을 알려 주시는 복된 소식이기 때문에 복음이라고 하는 것입니다.

지금 야고보 사도가 말씀하고 있는 시기와 다툼으로 구하여도 사람이 얻지 못하고 살인하여도 얻지 못하는 것은 그것이 사람을 위한 것이 아니라는 말씀입니다. 사람을 위한 것을 가지신 이가 사람을 만드셨기에 사람이 그것을 구하면 풍성히 주신다고 말씀하시는 것이 그것입니다. 그런데 사람이 자기가 구해야 할 것이 아닌 것을 구하고 있으니 살인하여도 얻지 못하는 심각한 간음에 빠졌다는 것입니다.

이에 대하여 야고보 사도는 원래 사람이 가져야 할 것을 사람이 구하지 않는 것에 대하여 성령께서는 시기하기 하신다^[각주:1]고 말씀을 하고 있습니다. 성령의 일은 다른 것이 아니라 우리가 예수 그리스도를 보고서 그리스도의 생명으로 거듭나게 하시는 일을 하시는 분이시기 때문입니다. 성령은 우리 안에 생명을 잉태케 하시는 분이고, 우리가 그리스도의 본성을 알고 살아가도록 도우시는 보혜사이시기 때문입니다. 

그러므로 모든 사람들. 특히 하나님을 믿는다는 사람들은 하나님께서 우리에게 세우신 그 뜻을 구하는 것이 가장 우선입니다. 그래서 예수님께서 ‘먼저 그 나라와 그 의를 구하라’고 하신 것입니다. 또한 이것이 우리가 하나님께 얻을 수 있는 가장 큰 은혜입니다. 그리고 그 하나님의 뜻을 순종하는 것이 가장 겸손한 것입니다. 겸손한 것은 무조건 낮추는 것이 아니라 자기 자리를 아는 것입니다. 하나님 앞에서 하나님께서 정한 자리로 가서 하나님께서 사람에게 뜻하신 것을 순종하고 받아들이는 것이 진정한 겸손이라는 것입니다.

그런데 사람들은 하나님께서 정한 것을 자기의 존재 운명과 정체성으로 받아들이지 않고 자신이 생각하는 의로움을 좇습니다. 이겨서, 높은 곳으로 가서, 더 고상해져서, 더 위대하고 성공하므로 하나님께 의로워지려는 자기 기준으로 살아갑니다. 자기가 주인도 아닌 인생을, 인생을 주신 하나님의 뜻과 다른 뜻을 가지고 살아간다는 것은 하나님이 보실 때 그 보다 더한 교만은 없는 것입니다. 하나님이 정한 것 보다 자신이 정한 것이 더 옳다고 하는 것이기 때문입니다. 

이는 “하나님 당신은 좀 비켜 있다가 내가 영광으로 여기는 것을 주면 잘 받아먹고 내가 할 수 없는 이 세상에서의 영광과 성공이나 내게 뱉어내면 됩니다. 알겠습니까?”라고 하나님께 말하고 있는 것이기 때문입니다. 이것이 또한 마귀의 생각입니다. 

마귀의 생각이 다른 것이 아닙니다. 하나님과 반대되는 생각을 하는 것이 마귀의 생각입니다. 마귀가 사람 밖에 있는 것이 아닙니다. 사람 안에 하나님과 반대되는 생각, 하나님이 주신 인생을 자신이 주관하는 생각이 바로 마귀의 생각입니다. 즉 그런 생각을 가진 사람과 자신이 마귀이지, 마귀가 흰 소복이나 검은 망토를 걸친 귀신같이 어슬렁거리는 것이 아니라는 것입니다.

두 마음을 품는다는 것 역시 같은 것입니다. 그것이 간음입니다. 남편 있는 여자가 다른 남자와 동침사는 것이 간음이듯, 우리 인생의 주인이 엄연히 계신데 그 주인의 생각이 아니라 자기 생각으로 인생을 산다는 것 그 자체가 간음이고 두 마음인 것입니다. 그것은 성결하지 않은 것입니다. 순결한 신부란 자기가 정한 남편을 맞이하는 것이 순결이듯, 성결은 존재하는 것이 자기 존재에 맞는 것을 수용하는 것입니다. 

그러므로 야고보사도는 하나님께 순복하라고 말씀하십니다. 이는 하나님께 머리를 조아리면 우리를 혼내지 않고, 우리 먹을 것을 주신다는 것이 아닙니다. 하나님께 순복한다는 것은 하나님의 의와 뜻이 나의 의와 뜻으로 받아들인다는 것입니다. 우리가 그렇게 해야 하는 것은 그렇게 하는 것이 우리의 존재 목적이기 때문입니다.

This is also the greatest grace we can get to God. And obeying the will of God is the most humble. Humility is not to lower it unconditionally, but to know its place. It is true humility to go to God's place before God and obey and accept God's will to man.

However, people do not accept what God has set as their own fate and identity, but follow the righteousness they think. I will live on my own standards, to win, to go to higher places, to be more noble, to be greater, to succeed, and to be righteous to God. There is no more pride in God's sight than to live a life that is not his master, a life that is different from the will of God who gave his life. Therefore, the apostle James tells us to surrender to God. It does not mean that if we close our heads to God, we will not slaughter us and give us food. Submitting to God means accepting God's righteousness and will in my righteousness and will. We must do so because it is our purpose to do so.

God will elevate us if such a person surrenders and falls below God's purpose for man's creation. It is because we are living in God, so we become one with God, just as the cola becomes a cola.
