(로마서 14:13-23) 세상에 스스로 속된 것은 없나니

많은 신앙인들은 어떤 것이 선하고 좋은 것이며 어떤 것이 악하고 나쁜 것인지를 알아서 선한 것을 취하고 행하는 것이 좋은 신앙이라고 여깁니다. 아니 이것이 신앙생활의 전부입니다. 정말로. 더 나아가서 이런 관점은 비단 기독교만의 가치관이 아닙니다. 모든 종교의 관점이기도 합니다.

하지만 그것은 진정한 신앙이 아닙니다. 그것이 바로 <선악과>를 먹고 밝아진 눈으로 보는 안목입니다. 그 안목이 하나님께서 지으시고 보시기에 좋았다고 한 사람의 모습 그대로는 의로워질 수 없다며 기도해야 한다고, 성경 봐야 한다고, 십일조도 하고, 선한 행동을 해야 한다고 이끄는 것입니다. 

그리고 또 하나의 문제는 그 선함의 기준이 다르다는 것입니다. 그나마 그것이라도 같으면 다행인데 그것마저 다르다는 것입니다. 그것이 바로 바벨탑을 쌓을 때 언어가 달라졌다는 것입니다. 내가 선하다고 여기는 것을 말하면 듣는 사람이 동의하지 않는다는 것입니다. 그래서 흩어졌듯, 지금도 세례는 이렇게 해야 의롭다는 것이 서로 말이 달라 교파가 흩어진 것입니다. 그리고 이것이 바로 세상에 있는 모든 갈등의 원인입니다. 서로 같은 것을 의롭게 여기는 사람은 절대로 다투지 않기 때문입니다.

하지만 정작 문제의 핵심은 다른 것입니다. 세상에 선하지 않은 것이 있다면 그것을 만드신 하나님도 선하지 않은 분이 된다는 것입니다. 기독교 신앙의 대상은 하나님을 믿는 것입니다. 그 믿는 하나님의 정체성은 다 열거하기도 힘듭니다. 전지전능, 무소부재 하신 하나님은 물론이고, 능치 못함도 실수도 없는 온전하신 하나님이라 믿습니다. 그리고 그 하나님께서 이 세상과 사람과 자신을 만들었다고 믿는 것입니다. 그런데 세상에 선하지 않은 것이 있다? 그럼 어떻게 되는 것입니까?

바울 사도는 이것에 대하여 명확하게 이렇게 말씀하고 있습니다.

내가 주 예수 안에서 알고 확신하는 것은 무엇이든지 스스로 속된 것이 없으되 다만 속되게 여기는 그 사람에게는 속되니라(롬 14:14)

그리고 이와 비슷한 말씀을 디모데에게도 한 적이 있습니다.

하나님의 지으신 모든 것이 선하매 감사함으로 받으면 버릴 것이 없나니(딤전 4:4)

바울 사도는 이것에 대하여 <주 안에서 알고 확신하는 것>이라고 했습니다. 이것은 분명한 것이라는 것입니다. 바울 사도의 확신도 확신이지만 하나님을 믿는다고 한다면 그 믿음 안에 있는 사람들은 상식적으로도 그래야 하는 것입니다. 온전한 하나님께서 만드셨는데, 선하신 하나님께서 만드셨는데, 실수도 없이 온전하신 하나님께서 만드셨는데 선하지 않다면 도무지 뭘 믿고 누구를 믿는다는 것인지 알 수 없기 때문입니다.

그럼에도 불구하고 사람들이 세상에 어떤 것을 속된 것으로 여기고, 또 사람을 부정하게 여기며 심지어 자기의 본성조차 부정하게 여기는 이유는 다름이 아니라 그것을 속되게 여기는 그 사람 안에 있는 안목, 그 하나 때문입니다. 그것을 성경은 <선악과를 먹은 것>이라고 말씀하시는 것입니다. 사람이 자기 안에 있는 안목으로 선과 악을 나누니 속되고 악한 것이 생긴 것이라는 것입니다.

이는 베드로의 꿈에서 고넬료를 방문하라고 명하시는 하나님의 음성에서 분명하게 나타나고 있습니다. 하나님께서 베드로에게 네 발 달린 짐승, 기는 것, 공중에 나는 것을 먹으라고 하시니 베드로가 “속된 것을 먹을 수 없나이다.”라고 답하니 하나님께서 이렇게 말씀하신 것입니다.

또 두 번째 소리 있으되 하나님께서 깨끗케 하신 것을 네가 속되다 하지 말라 하더라(행 10:15)

그 뿐이 아닙니다. 예수님께서도 같은 말씀을 하셨습니다. 제자들이 손을 씻지 않고 떡을 먹은 것에 대하여 바리새인들이 시험하듯 질문하니 예수님께서 말씀하시기를,

입에 들어가는 것이 사람을 더럽게 하는 것이 아니라 입에서 나오는 그것이 사람을 더럽게 하는 것이니라(마 15:11)

입에서 나오는 것들은 마음에서 나오나니 이것이야말로 사람을 더럽게 하느니라(마 15:18)

세상의 것이 사람을 더럽게 만드는 것이 아니라, 사람 안에 더러운 것이 있어 그것이 세상을 더럽게 여긴다는 것입니다.

이 모든 말씀은 이것을 말씀하시는 것입니다. 하나님께서 만드신 모든 것은 다 선한 것이고 하나님의 의도대로 된 것인데, 사람이 자신들의 기준으로 볼 때 선한 것, 악한 것, 부정한 것, 속된 것이 나누어진 것이라는 것입니다. 이것이 온전히 심령 안에서 ‘아멘’이 되면 신앙의 모든 것을 아는 것일지도 모릅니다. 하나님께서 세상을 향하여 가지신 의를 아는 것이니 말입니다.

바울 사도가 지금 형제들을 어떻게 대할 것인지를 말씀하시는 중에 이것을 말씀하신 것은 사람을 보는 것 역시 같은 것이기 때문입니다. 사람이 자신도 자기 뜻대로, 자기가 옳다고 생각하는 대로 인생을 시작한 것이 아니면서, 다른 사람을 보고 비판하는 것이 옳지 않다는 것입니다. 그리고 사람이 그 받은 믿음의 분량이 있어 그 분량 안에서 의심하거나 믿음이 약하거나 또한 복음을 자유롭게 누리는 사람의 행동에 걸림이 되는 것 역시 비판하거나 훈계하거나 할 것이 아니라는 것입니다. 

오히려 형제들의 그런 안목은 그 형제 안에 있는 것이기에 그 형제가 그것을 바꾸어낼 수 있는 이미지 곧 하나님의 말씀으로 살아낸 삶의 모습과 말씀이 그 안에 심겨서 스스로 바꾸어낼 수 있도록 살아내라는 것입니다. 그것이 바울 사도가 지금 전하고자 하는 말씀인 것입니다. 왜냐하면 그것이 바로 그리스도의 생명이 있는 삶의 모습이기 때문입니다. 즉 생명이 심령 안에 있어 그것이 삶으로 표현되는 것이라는 것입니다. 그리고 그것이 바로 율법을 완성한 것이고, 그런 모습만이 하나님 앞에서 의롭다 인정을 받는 것이기 때문입니다.

(Romans 14:13-23) Nothing is unclean in itself.

And this is the cause of all the conflicts in the world. It is because people who regard the same thing as righteous will never quarrel.

But the core of the problem is different. What is not good in the world is that God who made it is also not good. The object of Christian faith is to believe in God. It is also difficult to enumerate the identity of the believing God. To believe God is the perfect God, not only impossible, but also mistaken. And I believe that God created this world and man and himself. But what is not good in the world? So what happens?

The Apostle Paul clearly states this:

I am convinced, being fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for that person it is unclean. (Romans 14:14)

And I have also told Timothy similar words.

For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, (1 Tim. 4: 4)

The Apostle Paul said that this is what we know and know in the Lord. This is obvious. If Paul's conviction is convinced but he believes in God, then those in the faith should do so in common sense. God made the whole God, made by the good God, who made the perfect God without error, but if not good, he can not know what to believe or who to believe.

Nevertheless, there is no reason why people regard something as deceived in the world, deny a person, or even deny one's nature, not because of the discernment in the person who regards it as deceptive. That is what the Bible says, "Eat of the good and bad." It is that a man divides good and evil into an eye that is in him, and that is deceitful and evil.

This is evident in the voice of God who commands Peter to visit Cornelius in his dreams. God told Peter to feed the animals with his feet, the creeping things, and the things that are in the air. Peter answered, "You can not eat what belongs to you."

And a second voice said, Thou shalt not deceive what God cleansed (Acts 10:15).

That's not all. Jesus said the same thing. The disciples asked the Pharisees, as they were tempted, to eat the bread without washing their hands. Jesus said,

What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.” (Matthew 15:11)

But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. (Matt 15:18)

It is not that the world does not make people dirty, but there is something dirty in people, which makes the world dirty.

All these words speak of this. Everything that God has made is good and done according to the will of God, that is, by the standards of man, good things, evil things, unclean things, and deceived things are divided. If this is 'amen' in the spirit, it may be to know all things of faith. God knows the righteousness of the world.

This is what the apostle Paul said about how he will treat his brethren now, because it is also the same to see a person. It is not right for people to see and criticize others, not to start their own lives as they think they are right. And it is not a matter of criticism or admonition that a person has the amount of faith in which he is suspicious, weak in faith, or engaged in the behavior of a person who enjoys the gospel freely.

Rather, the insight of the brethren is in the brother, so that the image of the brother who can change it, that is, the image and the word of life that has survived by the word of God, can be planted in it and live so that it can transform itself. That is what the apostle Paul wants to say now. Because it is the life of Christ's life. That is, life is in the soul and it is expressed in life. And that is because it is the completion of the law, and only that form is justified before God.
