가나 혼인잔치는 예수님께서 물도 필요하면 포도주로 만들 수 있다는 능력을 자랑하신 것이 아닙니다. 예수님을 믿는다는 것은 예수님께서 그런 능력이 있다는 것을 믿는 것이라는 것을 말씀하시고자 함은 더더욱 아닙니다. 물이 포도주가 되었다는 것은 하나님의 말씀이 그리스도가 되었다는 것입니다. 이는 마치 창세기에서 하나님의 생령이 사람이 되었다는 것 같은 것입니다.

특히나 예수님께서 물을 포도주로 만드셨다는 것은 예수님의 정체성에서 비롯된 것입니다. 예수님은 <말씀이 육신이 되신 분>입니다. 그 육신이 다름 아닌 포도주로 상징되는 그리스도입니다. 하나님의 말씀이 그리스도가 되어 우리와 같은 육신으로 이 땅에 오신 분이 예수님이십니다. 말씀이 육신이 되신, 물이 포도주가 되신 그 사건의 본질적 의미의 주체라는 것입니다.

그리고 예수님께서 물로 포도주를 만드신 사건을 보이신 것은 모든 사람이 예수님과 같이 하나님의 말씀이 그 육신, 그 삶이 되어야 한다는 것을 보이신 것입니다. 모든 사람이 물이 포도주가 되듯 변해야 한다는 것을 말씀하시는 것입니다. 그것이 아니라면, 그것을 믿는 것이 아니라면 이 사건을 묵상할 이유가 전혀 없습니다. 

예수님께서 물로 포도주를 만드신 것은 분명히 객관적으로 있었던 사실이지만 그 객관성을 아무리 믿어도 우리는 그렇게 할 수 없기 때문에 예수님의 초인적인 능력이나, 그 능력이 객관적 사실이라고 믿는 것은 나와 아무런 상관이 없는 것입니다. 내가 그렇게 할 수 없는 것을 읽고 믿는 것은 의미가 없는 것이기 때문입니다. 예수님께서는 그 보이신 모든 것에 대하여 우리를 향하여 “나를 따라 오라”고 하셨는데 그렇게 할 수 없다면 적어도 그것을 하지 못하는 사람에게 그 예수님의 기적은 아무 의미가 없는 것이라는 것입니다.

그렇다면 이 가나의 혼인잔치를 우리는 어떻게 봐야할까요?

이 가나의 혼인잔치의 기적은 예수님의 정체성이 하나님의 말씀이 육신으로 나타나신 분이기에 그 정체성이 표현된 사건입니다. 그리고 이 사건은 오늘 우리의 사건이 되어야 하는 것입니다. 즉 우리 모든 사람, 하나님께서 만드신 모든 사람은 그 육신의 삶이 하나님의 말씀이 가득해서 그 가득한 하나님의 말씀이 그 사람의 육신의 삶으로 표현될 때 그리스도의 성품이 드러나는 삶이 되어야 함을 보이신 것입니다.

사람들은 누구나 그리스도가 되려 합니다. 예수님을 또 하나님을 믿는 사람들은 하나님의 아들 곧 예수 그리스도의 성품을 닮은 삶을 살려고 합니다. 그리스도의 영으로 거듭난 삶을 살려고 합니다. 그리고 하나님을 믿지 않는 사람들도 영웅과 같이 인생의 모든 문제를 잘 해결하는 사람이 되려 합니다. 즉 누구나 다 그 마음 안에서 포도주를 내어 놓고 싶어 합니다.

그런데 사람들은 포도주를 내어 놓기 위해서 자신을 단련하고, 행동을 바르게 하려 합니다. 인생의 문제를 해결하기 위하여 자기 생각과 행동을 수련하여 인간이 가진 본성을 억제하여 다른 사람이 볼 때, 힘든 일들을 잘 해내고 또 다른 사람보다 더 도덕적인 사람이 되려 합니다. 수련과 연단을 통해서 그렇게 되려 합니다. 그래서 머리 깎고 절에 들어가기도 하고, 이성을 멀리하려 신부나 수녀가 되기도 하며, 또 육체를 단련하기도 하고, 공부를 열심히 하기도 합니다.

그런데 그게 잘 안됩니다. 그래서 사람들은 단지 더 열심히 하려고만 합니다. 그리고는 인생은 그렇게 끝없는 노력을 하는 것이라고 말하고 서로 인정합니다. 그렇게 단 한 번도 온전한 자리에 이르지 못했는데 그냥 그것이 인간의 한계고 본분이라면 더 이상 생각하지도, 의문을 가지지도 않습니다. 그게 인생이라고...

그러면 왜 인생은 그렇게 끝없는 노력만 하다가 끝날까요?

그것은 육신을 가지고 살아가는 삶에 나타나는 것들을 부정하고자 하는 마음 때문입니다. 사람들과 부딪히지 않으려고 산에 들어가서 묵상하고 있다는 것은 사람들과 살면서 겪는 갈등 속에서 화나고 번민하며 그것에 대응하는 자신의 모습이 죄를 짓는 모습으로 보이기 때문에 회피하는 것입니다. 세상의 일을 제법 맘대로 할 수 있는 왕이 산에 혼자 들어가는 것 보셨나요? 그런 일을 없습니다.

결혼을 하지 않는 사람을 성직자라고 하는 것은 역설적으로 결혼하는 사람은 하나님의 뜻을 또 신의 뜻을 잘 알 수 없다는 생각을 가지고 있기 때문입니다. 신학을 해야 성직자가 된다고 하는 것도 마찬가지입니다. 신은 공부를 해야 알 수 있는 것이라는 것입니다. 이런 모든 것은 인간이 가진 본성에 따라 살아서는 하나님을 또 신을 잘 알 수 없다는 것입니다. 

이 모든 것은 인간이 자기 모습대로 살면 포도주를 내어 놓을 수 없다는 생각 때문입니다. 즉 그리스도의 성품으로 살 수도 없고, 삶에서 겪는 문제를 이겨낼 영웅도 될 수 없다는 것입니다. 그러나 정말로 솔직하게 생각해볼까요? 세상을 세속이라면 떠나 산으로 들어가는 것, 사람들의 본능을 억제하여 결혼을 하지 않는 것이 그게 문제를 해결한 것입니까? 아닙니다. 그냥 비겁하게 회피한 것 그 이상도 이하도 아닙니다.

사람들이 그렇게 사람이 가진 본성과 육신을 제어하고 통제하고 또 수련하는 기본적인 생각은 그것이 부정하다고 여기기 때문입니다. 하지만 사람이 가진 본성은 그 자체가 부정한 것이 아닙니다. 인간의 육신도 모자람이 있는 것이 아닙니다. 육신과 그것이 가진 본성은 다 목적이 있는데 그 목적대로 사용하지 않기 때문에 부정하고 수련해야 하는 것입니다.

식칼이 날카롭기 때문에 때로 사람이 베이기도 하고 심지어 범행에 이용되기도 합니다. 그러면 그런 위험을 줄이기 위해서 식칼을 손이 베지 않을 정도로 무디게 해야 할까요? 그것이 아니라는 것은 모든 사람이 압니다. 식칼은 날카롭고 날이 잘 서 있는 것이 좋은 것입니다. 단지 그것은 요리하는 것에 사용이 되면 온전한 것입니다. 칼을 만든 사람, 사용하는 사람이 의도하고 기대하는 목적이 바로 그것이기 때문입니다.

사람도 마찬가지입니다. 사람은 만드신 하나님은 온전하신 분입니다. 그 하나님께서 만드신 사람이 문제가 있다면 하나님은 온전하지도, 전지전능하지도 않으며, 실수도 않으신다는 찬사를 받을 수 없습니다. 전지전능한 하나님께서 계획을 가지고 만든 인간의 모든 것은 온전한 것입니다. 단지 그 목적이 사람 안에 없기 때문에, 인생을 그 목적대로 살지 않기 때문에 포도주가 모자라는 것입니다.

하나님을 믿는 믿음을, 하나님께서 사람을 지으신 계획 곧 말씀(LOGOS)을 항아리에 물을 채우듯이 자기 안에 채우지 않기 때문에, 자기 존재의 목적이 자기 안에 없기 때문에 식칼의 날카로움이 범죄의 도구가 되듯 사람이 행하는 모든 것이 죄가 되는 것입니다. 즉 인생이 자기 존재의 목적이 자기 안에 없기 때문에 그 본성이 죄스러운 것이지, 목적 안에 있다면 본성은 다 온전한 것입니다.

It is paradoxical that a person who does not marry a priest has the idea that a married person can not know God's will and God's will. The same is true of being a priest when we have to do theology. 처음 성경이 시작할 때에 하나님께서는 생기를 넣으셨습니다. 하나님의 형상을 나타내시겠다는 것입니다. 로마서에서는 성전이라고 말씀하고 있습니다. 하나님이 빈 항아리와 같은 사람 안에 거하실 것이라는 것입니다. 그것이 하나님께서 사람을 항아리와 같이 지으신 목적이라는 것입니다. 즉 하나님의 말씀과 뜻이 사람 안에 채워지는 것이 바로 인간의 정체성이라는 것입니다.

그렇게 될 때에 사람은 포도주 곧 그리스도(a christ)가 된다는 것입니다. 그런데 알고 보면 그 그리스도의 본성은 정말로 사람들이 되고 싶어 하는 것입니다. 그리스도란 곧 메시아를 의미합니다. ‘기름 부음을 받은 사람’ 곧 왕이요 제사장인 사람이 되는 것입니다. 모든 사람이 왕과 같이 이긴 자가 되기를 원하고, 모든 사람이 제사장과 같이 신의 뜻을 알기를 원합니다. 신이 자신을 만든 이유, 자기 존재의 의미와 삶의 목적을 알기 원하는 것입니다.

원래 이 항아리는 포도주가 들어 있던 항아리입니다. 즉 그리스도의 정체성이 들어 있어야 하는 항아리입니다. 문제는 그 항아리에 있던 포도주는 잔치하기에 모자라더라는 것입니다. 다시 말해서 하나님의 말씀이 육신이 되는 일, 하나님의 의가 사람의 의가 되는 일에 모자람이 있는 포도주라는 것입니다. 다시 말해서 예수님 이전의 포도주, 즉 율법은 모자람이 있는 포도주라는 것입니다.

율법이라는 것은 하나님이 주신 행동강령이고 행위에 대한 규례입니다. 사람들이 그 율법을 보고서 그것을 행동으로 지켜내면 되는 것이라고 생각했었습니다. 그러나 그 생각으로는 잔치를 다 치를 수 없다는 것입니다. 신랑 되신 예수님을 신부로서 온전히 만날 수 없다는 것입니다. 포도주가 모자란다는 것, 포도주를 내어 놓아야 하는 항아리가 더 이상 포도주를 내어 놓을 수 없다는 것은 하나님의 말씀을 행위로 지켜서는 포도주인 그리스도의 성품을 나타낼 수 없다는 것입니다.

그런데 예수님의 말씀대로 했더니 포도주를 내어 놓는데 사람들이 그 맛을 보고서 말하기를 ‘이전 보다 더 좋은 포도주’라고 말하더라는 것입니다. 율법을 지키는 것보다 더 온전하게 하나님의 의가 나타나더라는 것입니다. 포도주 항아리에 사람이 만든 포도주를 넣었더니 모자라더니, 예수님의 말씀을 따라 물을 채웠더니 나오는 포도주가 더 온전하더라는 것입니다.

사람들이 하나님의 말씀을 행위 규범으로 보고 그것을 지키는 마음을 자기 안에 포도주를 만들어 넣듯이 자기 육신을 어떻게 해 보았더니 그것은 모자랐는데, 밖에서 안으로 넣은 것이 아니라, 안에서 포도주가 된 것이 나오니 그것이 만들어 넣은 포도주보다 훨씬 온전하더라는 것입니다. 하나님의 말씀을 자기 육신으로 지켜서 자기 심령에 넣은 것보다 하나님의 말씀이 사람의 심령 안에 있어 그것이 포도주가 되니 더 온전하더라는 것입니다.

사람들은 하나님의 말씀을 행위로 지켜내면 자기 심령이 변할 것이라고 생각합니다. 혼인잔치를 위하여 항아리에 넣어둔 포도주가 그것입니다. 하지만 그 포도주가 혼인자치에 부족하고, 또 물이 변한 포도주 보다 온전하지 못했던 것 같이, 사람이 육신의 행위로서 하나님의 말씀을 지켜서 자기 심령을 변화시키려는 것은 늘 부족하고 온전하지 못하다는 것입니다.

그러나 반대로 하나님의 말씀을 들었더니 그것이 포도주가 되어 나오니 온전하더라는 것입니다. 하나님의 말씀을 듣고서 자기가 행동으로 해보려고 하니 안 되던 것들이 단지 말씀대로 말씀을 자기 안에 채워 넣었더니 더 온전한 포도주, 더 온전히 하나님의 말씀대로 사는 삶이 되더라는 것입니다. 그것을 사람들이 알더라는 것입니다.

이 가나 혼인잔치에는 두 가지의 포도주가 나옵니다. 사람이 만든 포도주와 물이 변한 포도주. 사람이 만든 포도주는 사람이 그리스도의 심령을 가지고자 노력한 산물입니다. 성경을 읽고 그것을 행동으로 지켜내려 한 것, 그것입니다. 하지만 그것은 그리스도와 하나가 되는 혼인잔치에 부족했습니다.

그러나 물이 변하여 된 포도주는 부족하지도 않고, 또 사람들이 그것이 더 온전한 것임을 알더라는 것입니다. 그리스도와 같은 삶, 하나님의 말씀을 지키고 그 말씀대로 사는 것은 행위에 있는 것이 아니라, 하나님의 말씀을 순종함으로 자기 아귀에 차기까지 들으면 그 말씀이 자기 삶으로 나타나는데 맛보니 포도주요, 이전과 다른 포도주 더 온전한 포도주라는 것입니다. 그것을 말씀하시는 것입니다.

It is much more complete. It is that the Word of God is in the human psyche, and it is more perfect than wine, because the Word of God is kept in its own flesh and put in its own spirit.

People think that if they keep God's Word by action, their spirit will change. It is the wine that we put in the jar for the wedding banquet. However, just as the wine lacked in marriage autonomy and was not as perfect as the wine that changed water, it is always insufficient and incomplete that a man tries to change his mind by keeping the Word of God as an act of the flesh.

But on the contrary, when I heard the word of God, it came to be a wine, that it was perfect. When you hear the word of God and try to act in your own way, what you can not do is just fill the Word with you according to the Word, and you will live a more complete wine, more fully the Word of God. It is what people know.

There are two kinds of wine in this Ghanaian wedding banquet. Man made wine and water changed wine. Man made wine is a product that man has tried to have the spirit of Christ. It is to read the Bible and try to keep it in action. But it lacked a marriage feast to be one with Christ.

But the wine with the changed water was not lacking, and people knew it was more perfect. It is not in the act to keep the word of God, to live according to the word of God, but to obey the Word of God. It is called whole wine. That is what you are talking about.

때로 사람들은 자기의 선택은 고사하고 자기가 수고하지 않은 것도 자신의 것으로 압니다. 날 때부터 부유하게 난 사람이 자기의 부를 가지고 위세를 떠는 것은 단순히 싸가지 없는 것이 아니라 도적질입니다. 때로 남자라는 것으로 자격을 제한하고 권위를 내세우는 것 역시 도적질입니다. 자기 힘으로 남자가 된 것이 아니니, 자신의 성정체성이 남자라는 것이 자기 것이 아닌 것입니다.

그렇듯 사람들은 눈에 보이고, 자기가 관여하지 않았지만 자신에게 형성된 것을 자기 것으로 압니다. 만약 그것이 정말로 자신의 것이라고 우기려 한다면, 자기 인생을 자기 의지에서 시작했어야 하는 것입니다. 하지만 이 세상의 그 어느 누구도 자기 힘으로 자기 삶을 시작한 사람은 없습니다. 그렇다는 것은 그 누구도 자기의 삶이 자기 것이 아니라는 것입니다.

그런데 사람들은 자기 인생은 자신의 것이라고 생각합니다. 자기 인생을 막무가내로 사는 사람들만의 이야기가 아닙니다. 인생의 성취와 보람을 자기가 원하는 것을 이루는 것이라고 가르치고 꿈을 꾸는 것도 같은 것입니다. 자기가 시작도 하지 않은 그 인생과 육신 안에서 나오는 욕망과 꿈이 어떻게 자신의 것이란 말입니까? 그럴 수 없는 것입니다. 사람들은 그냥 그렇다고 치자며 살아가고 있는 것일 뿐입니다. 아무도 자기 삶의 시작을 모르기 때문입니다. 즉 살고 있는 인생이 누구의 것인지 모른다는 것입니다.
