(빌립보서 4:1-7) 우리의 구할 것

우리는 빌립보서 4장 초입 부분에 있는 “염려하지 말고 너희 구할 것을 감사함으로 하나님께 아뢰라”라는 말씀을 아주 자의적으로 사용해 왔고, 또 아직도 대부분의 교회들이 그렇게 자의적으로 사용하고 있습니다. ‘너희 구할 것’이라는 것에 대한 견해가 자의적이라는 것입니다. 

너희 구할 것이라는 것은 우리에게 필요한 것이라는 것은 맞지만 이 말씀은 하나님께서 우리에게 하시는 말씀이기 때문에 하나님과의 관계에 있어서 우리가 구할 것이라는 것이지, 우리 육신의 안위와 필요에 관한 것이 아니라는 것입니다. 이것은 마치 선생이 학생에게 가르친 것에 대하여 궁금하면 질문하라고 한 것과 같은 것입니다. 선생에게 용돈을 달라고 할 것이 아니라, 그 가르친 내용의 전달에 있어서 선생과 제자라는 관계 안에서 구할 것이라는 의미인 것입니다.

그런데 그냥 구할 것이라고 하니 단순하게 우리가 살아가면서 필요하다고 생각되는 것을 구하는 것이라고 생각하는 것이 바로 자의적인 해석이라는 것입니다. 그 필요성이 때로 하나님의 일이라고 한다고 해도 그것이 성취되는 것이 누구의 유익이냐의 문제를 생각해야 한다는 것입니다. 

그러니까 하나님께서 사람을 만드신 목적이 있고, 그 만드신 목적으로 사는 것에 관하여 우리가 할 바를 구하라는 것이지, 우리 육신의 어떠함에 대한 이야기가 아니라는 것입니다. 우리 육신의 어떠한 필요에 관해서는 하나님께서 이미 다 아신다고 예수님께서 말씀하신 것을 기억해야 합니다.

사람들은 하나님께 기도하는 것을 아주 편리하게 생각합니다. 구하면 무엇이든 다 주시는 하나님이라고 하셨다는 것에 환호합니다. 하지만 하나님께서는 먹을 것, 마실 것, 입을 것은 다 알아서 하신다고 하셨습니다. 그러니까 그것에 대하여 구하는 것은 월권이고 간섭이고 도전이며 하나님을 믿지 않는 것입니다. 그럼에도 사람들의 기도는 다 육신의 일에 한정되어 있습니다. 오늘 당신이 한 기도를 돌아보면 틀리지 않을 것입니다.

하지만 우리가 하나님께 구할 것은 우리 육신의 문제가 아닙니다. 심지어 우리 육신이 하나님의 일을 위하여 필요한 것도 아닙니다. 하나님이 자기 일 하는 자의 필요를 외면할리 없습니다. 하나님을 믿는다면 적어도 그 정도의 믿음은 있어야 하지 않겠습니까? 자기가 하는 일이 잘 되면 하나님께 영광을 돌리게 된다는 것이 정말로 하나님의 영광이 목적입니까? 그것은 다 자기 육신의 복락에 대한 핑계입니다. 그리고 하나님은 그런 것에 속지 않습니다. 

사람의 구할 것은 지기 육신의 어떠함에 관한 것이 아닙니다. 그것은 사람의 본분이나 일이 아닙니다. 사람이 자기 스스로 인생을 시작한 것이 아니기 때문입니다. 시작하게 하신 이가 있다는 것을 믿는다면 그 시작하신 이가 필요는 다 아실 것이기에 우리가 살면서 필요한 것은 우리가 염려하거나 구할 것이 아니라, 우리가 구할 것은 오직 하나, 우리가 사는 목적, 우리가 존재하게 된 이유 그것입니다. 그것이 바로 우리를 조성하신 이에게 구할 유일한 것입니다. 그것만 알면 들풀도 먹이고 입히시는 하나님께서 필요한 것은 다 주시는 것입니다. 이게 하나님을 믿는 것이고 기도인 것입니다.

더욱이 바울사도는 이것에 대하여 감사함으로 기도하라고 합니다. 다시 말해서 이것은 감사할 일이라는 것입니다. 인생이 존재하게 되었다는 것이 감사한 일이라는 것입니다. 존재하게 된 것을 감사하지 않고, 인생이라는 것을 곤고한 여정으로 규정한 사람들이 그 곤고함을 달래고 이기기 위하여 하나님께 무엇을 얻었다고 감사해봤자 하나님은 여전히 고약한 신(神)일뿐입니다. 인생을 곤고한 곳에 두고서 간헐적으로 필요한 것을 주고선 그것에 대한 감사를 즐기는 사이코패스 같은 신이 되는 것입니다. 그런데 사람들은 인생을 곤고한 것으로 정의하고 또 하나님을 그렇게 믿습니다.

그러나 바울사도는 우리가 하나님께 무엇을 구한다는 것은 감사한 것이라고 말씀합니다. 하나님께 구하면 돈 주고, 밥 주고, 여자 주니 감사한 것이라는 이야기가 아닙니다. 우리의 존재 정체성을 우리가 알지 못하는데 감사하게도 하나님께서 그것을 알고 계시기에 구하면 주신다는 것입니다. 그리고 더 나아가서 그 존재의 목적을 알았을 때, 우리 이 연약한 인생이 전능하신 하나님의 성품을 표현할 존재로 지음을 받았다는 것에 감당할 수 없는 감사를 느끼게 되기 때문입니다. 이것이 성경이 말하는 은혜입니다.

존재하지 않아도 아무 문제되지 않는 나를 지으셔서 천지의 주인이신 하나님의 성품을 표현하는 아들로서 살게 하신다는 것이 감사한 것입니다. 이 감사함, 존재하지 않았으면 어쩔 뻔 했나 싶은 그 감사함이 바로 하나님께 가지는 감사함의 근본인 것입니다. 그리고 그것(우리 존재의 목적)을 우리가 구할 때 주신다고 하시고 또한 그것은 틀림없이 풍성히 주시는 분이시기에 감사한 것입니다.

그러므로 우리는 하나님께서 우리에게 구하라고 하신 것을 자기 육신의 필요와 기대에 관한 것이 아니라는 것을 알아야 합니다. 여기서 벗어나지 못하면 평생의 신앙이 반드시 헛것이 될 것입니다. 우리가 구할 것은 하나님께서 우리를 존재하게 하신 그 이유와 목적과 의미를 아는 것입니다. 

그것은 우리 인생이 그토록 갈망하는 삶의 의미와 인생의 목적과 자아 정체성을 알게 하는 것입니다. 그리고 그 자아를 사람들이 알게 하는 기쁜 삶을 사는 것에 관해서는 그 필요가 무엇이라도 하나님께서 다 들으신다는 것이 자기 안에 본성으로 있음을 알고 그 본성대로 사는 것이 하나님께 구하는 것입니다. 그것은 이루어지지 않음이 절대로 없을 것입니다. 하나님이 변한다면 모를까…

So, God has a purpose of making man, and asking us to do about living for his purpose, not about what our bodies are. As to the need of our bodies, we must remember what Jesus said that God already knew.

People think it is very convenient to pray to God. I cheer that you are God who gives you everything you ask. But God says that he takes care of everything to eat, drink, and wear. So asking for it is a whirlwind, interference, challenge, and not believing in God. Nevertheless, people's prayers are limited to the work of the flesh. If you look back on your prayers today, you will not be wrong.

But what we ask of God is not a matter of our flesh. Even our bodies are not necessary for the work of God. God can not ignore the needs of those who work. If you believe in God, should not there be at least that much faith? Is it really the purpose of God's glory to glorify God if he does well? It is an excuse for the rest of your body. And God is not deceived by such things.

It is not about what the flesh is asking for. It is not the duty or work of man. It is because man did not start his own life. If we believe that there is someone who has begun, then we need to know who we are, so we need not worry or save our lives, but only one thing we need, the reason we live, the reason we exist . That's the only thing we can ask for. If you know only that, the grass that feeds and clothe is everything God needs. This is believing in God and prayer.

Moreover, the apostle Paul says to pray with thanksgiving. In other words, this is to be appreciated. It is grateful that life has come to exist. I thank God that those who did not appreciate being, but who have defined life as a hard journey, have gained what God has gained to soothe their suffering and win. God is still a nasty God. It is a god like a psychopath that places life in a difficult place and gives it occasional necessities and appreciates it. But people define life as hard and believe in God so.

But the apostle Paul says that we are grateful for what we ask of God. If you ask God, it is not a story of giving money, giving rice, giving thanks to a woman. We do not know our identity of existence, but thankfully God gives us it when we know it. And even more so when we know the purpose of that being, we feel an unbelievable gratitude that our fragile life has been created to express the character of God Almighty. This is the grace of the Bible.

I am grateful that you have created me who does not exist, but that I am a son who expresses the character of God, the Lord of heaven and earth. This gratitude, and the gratitude that I would have otherwise had if it did not exist, is the basis of gratitude to God. And that when we ask for it (the purpose of our existence), and that it is surely abundant.

Therefore, we need to know that what God has asked us to ask is not about the needs and expectations of his flesh. If you do not get out of here, your faith in your life will be vain. What we need is to know the reason, purpose, and meaning of God that made us exist.

It is the meaning of life so longed for our lives, the purpose of life and self-identity. And as for living a joyful life that makes people know about the self, it is God asking God to live according to his nature, knowing that God has heard all his needs in his nature.
