(빌립보서 4:1-3) 사람이 기쁨과 면류관이 되는 신앙

바울사도는 빌립보의 성도들을 자신의 기쁨이고 면류관이묘 사랑하는 사람들이라고 했습니다. 사람이 기쁨이라는 것은 이렇게 글로 써 놓고 보니 좋은 말로 보이지만 우리의 삶에서 이런 것을 체감하는 것은 쉬운 일이 아닙니다. 게다가 사람을 자신의 면류관으로 여기는 것도 예사로운 일이 아닙니다. 사람들은 늘 자신이 다른 사람들이 이루지 못한 것을 이루어낸 업적을 면류관으로 삼는다는 것을 상기하면 이것이 얼마나 대단한 것인지 알 수 있습니다. 다른 사람이 이루지 못한 것을 이루어내었다는 것은 자신이 다른 사람 위에 있다는 것입니다. 설사 그것이 신앙이라 할지라도.

바울사도의 이 짤막한 고백은 옥에 갇혀서 자신을 선대한 빌립보 성도들에 대한 그리움과 립서비스가 아닙니다. 이것은 하나님을 믿는 사람들이 함께 하나님을 믿는 사람들을 어떻게 볼 것인지에 대한 해답이 담겨 있습니다. 이것이 아주 중요한 것입니다. 중요하다고 하는 것은 역설적으로 오늘 우리에게 별로 없는 일이라는 의미도 함축되어 있습니다. 오늘 우리는 사람이 기쁨이고 사람이 자신의 면류관이 되는 일을 잘 경험하기 힘들다는 것입니다.

우선 우리는 여기서 바울사도가 말씀하고 있는 ‘사랑하는 사람들’이라는 것을 생각해보아야 합니다. 사랑이라고 하면 우리가 쉽게 떠올리는 것들, 희생하고 봉사하고 선물 주며 상대가 이성이라면 육체적인 관계와 같은 것들이 있습니다. 그런데 그런 모든 모습들은 공통적이고 절대적인 조건이 있습니다. 서로가 서로에게 의미가 있는 존재일 때 그렇습니다. 쉽게 생각해서 아무 이성이나 자신의 배우자에게 하듯 하면 그것은 심각한 문제가 되는 것입니다. 서로가 어떤 의미의 관계인지가 먼저라는 것입니다.

성경이 말씀하는 사랑은 이와 같이 서로에게 존재의 의미를 일깨워주고, 서로의 존재가 서로에게 의미 있게 되는 것입니다. 가장 먼저가 하나님께서 우리를 사랑하신 것이라고 했습니다. 하나님께 사람이라는 존재는 하나님의 성품을 표현하는 존재라는 의미가 있고, 사람에게는 하나님이 가지신 그 뜻이 자기 존재의 의미라는 것입니다. 그리고 그것을 예수님께서 오셔서 보이시므로 사람이 사람에게 하나님께서 부여하신 사람의 존재 의미를 알게 하는 역사가 시작된 것입니다. 그것이 그리스도의 사랑입니다.

그러므로 결론적으로 성경이 말씀하고 있는 사랑이라는 것은 서로가 서로에게 하나님께서 자신들을 만든 의미를 알게 하고, 또한 그것을 보증하는 관계가 되는 것을 말합니다. 그 사랑이 발을 씻기는 것입니다. 즉 서로가 하나님께서 예수님을 통해서 보여주신 인생의 정체성을 알게 하는 존재가 되면, 그 상대나 자신이 육신을 소비하여 하나님의 성품을 드러내는 삶을 산다는 것을 알게 되기 때문에, 서로의 육신이 가진 허물을 위하여 수고하게 된다는 것입니다. 그것이 발을 씻기는 것이고, 그것이 또한 육신을 소비하는 것이며, 하나님께서 우리에게 육신을 주신 목적대로 사는 것입니다.

바울사도에게 빌립보의 성도들은 그런 사람들이었고, 빌립보의 성도들에게 바울사도가 그런 사람이었습니다. 루디아를 시작으로 바울사도를 통해서 하나님께서 인생에게 두신 뜻을 알게 되었고, 그것을 알고서 그것을 아는 사람들을 보니 서로에게 큰 존재의 의미가 될 뿐 아니라, 서로의 연약함을 돌보는 발 씻기는 수고를 감당하게 되고, 그런 일을 위하여 자기 육신을 드리는 십자가의 삶을 살게 되는 것을 서로 알게 되었다는 것입니다.

그렇게 사람들이 하나님께서 주신 인생의 목적을 알고서 살아가다 보니 자신으로 인하여 자신과 같이 하나님의 의와 뜻을 아는 사람들이 다시 나오게 되면, 그 사람들이 자신의 면류관이 되는 것입니다. 남이 하지 못하는 방언을 하는 것이 자기의 면류관이 아니라, 자신이 육신을 수고하므로 그 육신의 드림을 보고 또 육신을 가진 사람이 그런 삶을 살게 되었을 때 비로소 그 사람들이 자신의 면류관이 되는 것이라는 것입니다.

이것이 기쁨이 되려면, 그 가치를 알아야 합니다. 세상에서 성공하는 것에 기뻐하고 그것을 하나님의 은혜로 아는 사람들은 이 기쁨을 알 수 없습니다. 그들이 하나님을 믿어서 얻는 기쁨은 하나님께 기도한 적이 있는 자기 맘속에 바라는 것이 이루어졌을 때 하나님께서 그것을 도우셨다고 연관 지으면서 느끼는 기쁨입니다만 아쉽게도 하나님께서는 그것이 기쁘지 않으십니다. 휴대폰이 통화는 안 되고 예쁘기만 하다고 기쁠 리 없는 것과 같은 것입니다. 사람의 존재 목적도, 하나님께서 바라시는 것도 그것이 아니기 때문입니다.

사람이 기쁨이 되고, 사람이 하나님의 뜻을 알아 살게 되는 것이 자기 면류관이 되는 삶, 그것이 바울사도의 삶이었고, 또 오늘 우리가 살아야 하는 삶인 것입니다. 그것이 없다면 교회에 다는 것은 인생 낭비입니다. 그리고 바울사도와 같은 삶을 살려고 한다면 행위로 의로워지는 것이 아니라는 신앙, 성경을 지켜서 의로워지는 것이 아니라 하나님의 의가 있으면 성경은 지켜지는 것이라는 것을 자기 안에서부터 알아지는 신앙인이 되어야 하는 것입니다. 

바울사도가 사람을 인하여 기뻐하고, 사람이 자기 면류관이 되는 것이 바로 그런 것입니다. 다시 한 번 말하지만 세상에서 남들 하지 못하는 일을 하나님을 믿는다고 (착각)하는 사람이나 교회에 다니는 사람들이 이루어내는 것이 기쁨이나 면류관이 아니라, 내가 했던 것을 그가 해 낼 때 그것이 기쁨이 되고 면류관이 되는 것입니다. 그리고 그 일은 바로 하나님께서 인생을 만드신 목적이 자기 본성이 되어 사는 것입니다. 예수님이 말씀이 육신이 되어 사신 것과 같이…
