(빌립보서 1:12-30) 복음의 진보

이 빌립보서는 우리가 아는바와 같이 바울 사도가 옥에서 쓴 서신, 즉 옥중 서신입니다. 그렇다는 것은 이 빌립보서를 기록하고 있는 바울 사도의 형편이 옥에 죄인과 같이 갇혀있다는 것입니다. 그런데 바울 사도는 그런 자신의 상황이 <복음의 진보>라고 말씀하고 있습니다.

형제들아 나의 당한 일이 도리어 복음의 진보가 된 줄을 너희가 알기를 원하노라(빌 1:12)

오늘 날 교회에 다니는 많은 사람들의 관점에서 보면 옥에 갇힌 것이 복음의 진보라는 것을 이해할 수 없습니다. 아니 적어도 양심이 있다면 이해할 수 없는 것이라고 말할 정도는 되어야 합니다.(그렇지도 못한 것이 현실) 다들 육신의 형편이 세상이 ‘잘 됐다’ 말하는 형편이 되기를 바라면 하나님께 기도하는 신앙을 가지고 있으면서 바울 사도가 옥에 갇힌 것이 복음의 진보라고 하는 것이 이상하지 않다면 그것은 정말로 문둥병에 걸린 감각 없는 신앙이라고 할 수 밖에 없을 것입니다.

언급한 바와 같이 사람들이 하나님을 믿는 모습들, 그리고 그 실체는 육신의 복락과 번영과 안녕을 하나님께 보장 받는 것이고, 하나님이 그렇게 인생의 문제를 해결하신다는 것을 전하는 것을 복음을 전하는 것이라고 하며, 그렇게 하나님께 인생의 복락을 담보 받기 위하여 행동으로 성경을 지켜내려는 수고(단 한 번도 온전하게 하지도 못하면서 단지 노력했다는 것으로 자위하는)가 천국에서 마저 육신으로 살 동안 기대했던 부유함을 보장한다고 믿고 있는 것입니다.

그러나 그런 많은 사람들의 신앙관과는 다르게 바울 사도는 자신이 옥에 갇혀 있는 것이 복음에는 진보가 된다고 했습니다. 사실 생각해보면 예수님께서는 자신이 십자가에 못 박히지 않으면 하나님의 의가 나타나지 않을 것이라고 하셨으니 십자가의 복음을 전하는 바울 사도의 이 말씀은 전혀 이상한 것이 아닙니다. 왜냐하면 복음이란 육신을 드려서 하나님의 의를 표현하는 것에 관한 말씀이기 때문입니다.

사람들은 육신을 소중히 여깁니다. 물론 육신이 소중합니다. 그러나 육신이 소중한 것은 육신 자체의 정체성을 인함이 아닙니다. 그게 그렇게 소중한데 이렇게 연약하고 또 소비성으로 하나님께서 만드셨겠습니까? 사람들이 기도해서 보존하고 풍성하게 하려는 이 육신을 그렇게 부족하게 만드셨을 리가 없는 것입니다. 육신이 소중한 것은 이 육신 안에 무엇이 들어 있는지와, 인생의 목적대로 육신을 소비하고 있느냐에 따라 소중한 것이 되는 것이지 육신 자체는 전혀 소중한 것이 아닙니다. 그러니까 하나님께서 하나님의 의를 나타내시기 위함이라면 수만 명씩 죽이는 것을 아무렇지 않게 여기시는 것입니다.

마트에서 콜라 한 병을 사서 가지고 가는 사람은 그 콜라병을 떨어뜨리지 않으려 단단히 들고 갑니다. 그게 PET병이 소중해서 그렇다고 생각하는 바보가 있습니까? 그렇게 야무지게 들고 가는 것은 그 속에 있는 콜라를 먹기 위해서입니다. 그와 같이 질그릇과 같은 우리 인생들의 육신도 그 안에 하나님의 의가 있을 때 비로소 귀한 육신이 되는 것이지, 하나님의 의가 들어있지 않은 육신은 시간이 맞지 않는 시계와 같은 것입니다. 아무 짝에도 쓸데없다는 것입니다.

그러나 사람들은 이것을 모릅니다. 바울 사도가 옥에 갇힌 것이 복음의 진보인 이유를 알지 못합니다. 그것이 복음의 진보인 것을 알려면 자신 안에도 하나님의 의가 있고, 그 육신을 그 의를 표현하는 것에 소비하고 있어야 하는 것입니다. 그것도 없이 이 바울 사도의 말씀을 안다고 하는 것은 진짜 도적놈들입니다. 눈에 보이는 세상의 것을 본질로 알고서 그것이 잘 될 때 하나님의 복이라고 가르치는 입으로 바울 사도가 옥에 갇힌 것이 복음의 진보라는 의미를 안다고 말한다면 그렇다는 것입니다.

우리 육신이 복음의 진보에 사용된다는 것은 육신의 모든 것으로 하나님의 의를 나타내는 삶을 살고 있다는 의미입니다. 이것은 신학을 하고 하루 일과가 교회와 관련되었다는 의미가 아닙니다.(제발 그런 바보 같은 생각이 없어졌으면…) 모든 것이라고 하면 그것이 정체성이라는 의미입니다. 존재 자체가 하나님의 의를 표현하는 존재가 되면 밥을 먹든 화장실을 가든 언제나 하나님의 의를 표현하는 존재인 것입니다. 개가 배 타고 태평양 한 가운데 있다고 참치가 되지 않는 것과 같습니다.

자기 존재가 하나님의 의를 표현하는 존재라는 것은 그 육신이 세상의 가치관(세상에서 성공하는 것이 복이고 영광이고 승리라는 가치관)으로 볼 때 죄인이 되는 삶을 사는 것입니다. 일부러 그렇게 하라는 것이 아니라, 하나님의 뜻대로 육신을 쓰는 것과 세상에서 성공하는 것은 방향이 반대이기 때문에 어느 한 쪽을 의로 삼으면 다른 방향으로 가는 것은 죄악인 것입니다.

바울 사도는 지금 복음을 전하다 보니, 육신으로 율법을 지키면 하나님께서 육신의 삶에 복을 주신다는 율법주의자들에 의하여 옥에 갇혔습니다. 세상의 가치관과 다른 것을 하나님의 의라고 전했더니 옥에 갇혔다는 것입니다. 세상에서 성공하는 것이 하나님께 영광이라고 하는 것이 복음이 아니라고 했더니 교회에 다니는 사람들에게 ‘미친 놈’이라고 욕을 먹더라는 것입니다. 그런 상황이 복음의 진보라는 것입니다. 왜냐하면 우리 육신이란 그렇게 쓰라고 하나님께서 만드셨기 때문에 그것에 사용되고 있으니 복음의 진보가 되는 것입니다.

People value the body. Of course, the body is precious. But the body is not precious because of the identity of the body itself. Is it so precious that God made it so soft and consumed? He could not have made this body so lacking that people would pray and preserve and enrich it. What is important in the flesh is that it is precious according to what is contained in this body and whether it is consuming the body according to the purpose of life, but the body itself is not precious at all. So, if God is to manifest the righteousness of God, he will not hesitate to kill tens of thousands of people.

Anyone who buys a bottle of cola from a mart will take it firmly so as not to drop it. Is there a fool that thinks PET bottles are precious? It is to eat the cola which is in the inside to carry it like that. Likewise, the flesh of our lives, such as earthen vessels, is a precious body only when there is God's righteousness in it, but the body without God's righteousness is like a timeless clock. It is not necessary for any pair.

But people do not know this. I do not know why the apostle Paul was imprisoned in the jail is the progress of the gospel. To know that it is the progress of the gospel is to have the righteousness of God in himself and to consume it in expressing his righteousness. It is the real thieves who know the words of this Apostle Paul without it. It is true that if the apostle Paul was imprisoned in prison with the mouth of the sight of the visible world as a substance and teaching it to be the blessing of God when it is well, it would mean the gospel progress.

The fact that our bodies are used in the progress of the gospel means that we are living a life that represents the righteousness of God in all our bodies. Whenever existence itself expresses the righteousness of God, it is always a manifestation of the righteousness of God whether you eat rice or toilets. To be self-existent is to express God's righteousness by living a life that is sinful when the body is seen as a world value (blessing, glory, and victory). It is not sinful to go to the other direction if one is righteous, because it is the opposite direction to write the flesh according to God's will and succeed in the world, not to do so intentionally.

The Apostle Paul now proclaimed the gospel, and was imprisoned by legalists who said that if they keep the law in the flesh, God blesses the life of the flesh. It is said that the value of the world and the other are the righteousness of God. It is said that it is not the gospel that it is glory to God to be successful in the world, and that people who go to the church are called 'insane'. Such a situation is the progress of the gospel. Because our body is used for it because it is made by God to be used, it is the progress of the gospel.
