(야고보서 3:13-18) 위로 난 지혜의 화평

야고보 사도는 <위로 난 지혜>를 말씀하고 있습니다. 1장에서는 각양 좋은 은사는 위로부터 빛들의 아버지로부터 내려온다고 말씀했고, 3장에서는 성결하고, 화평하고, 관용하고, 양순하며 긍휼과 선한 열매가 가득하고 편벽과 거짓이 없는 지혜도 위에서 난 것이라고 했습니다. 이것을 말씀하시는 것은 시기와 다툼은 그렇지 않다는 것을 말씀하시기 위한 것입니다.

세상은 늘 혼란스럽고 다툼이 많습니다. 그래서 사람들은 늘 이것을 해결하려고 하고, 또한 이 끝없는 다툼으로 인하여 세상이 멸망할 것이라고 생각합니다. 그러나 이 모든 시기와 다툼은 의외의 원인에서 비롯됩니다. 그것은 다름 아닌 ‘이것이 옳은 것’이라고 주장하는 것으로부터 나옵니다. 세상의 어떤 다툼도 ‘내가 잘못했다’라고 하는데 생기지 않습니다. 잘못했다는 사람을 자기주장의 한을 풀듯 폭력을 행사하는 사람은 있을 수 있어도 다툼은 생기지 않습니다.

야고보 사도가 지혜가 위로부터 온다고 하는 것은 하나님의 의는 ‘이것이 옳은 것이다’라고 주장하지 않습니다. 이는 옳은 것이 없거나, 모르거나, 감추어야 하는 것이 아니라, 주장하지 않기 때문입니다. 예수님의 십자가가 세상의 모든 다툼을 일으키는 것과 같이 ‘이것이 옳으니 이대로 해야 한다.’며 주장한 것 같습니까? 그렇지 않습니다. 옳은 것으로 따진다면야 예수님께서 가지신 의와 선보다 더 옳은 것이 없음에도 주장하시지 않았습니다.

시기와 다툼이 대단한 것 같지만 결국은 내가 옳다는 것입니다. 내가 옳은데 남의 것이 인정받으니 시기하는 것이고, 내가 옳은데 그것이 아니라고 하니 다투는 것입니다. 이것이 가장 심한 곳이 어쩌면 교회입니다. 모양은 고상하나 절대로 양보하지 않습니다. 그러다 고상함의 임계점을 넘어서면 결국 예배당에서 똥물 투척하는 싸움이 되고, 교회가 갈라지는 것입니다.

야고보 사도가 위로 난 지혜는 화평케 한다고 하심이 바로 이것입니다. 위로부터 난 지혜는 자기가 옳다는 주장으로 시기와 다툼을 일으키는 것이 아니라, 가장 옳은 것을 가지고 섬기고 종이 되고 죄인이 되는 그리스도의 도이기에, 화평케 하시는 예수님과 같이 화평하게 한다는 것입니다. 그리고 그 화평케 하는 십자가의 도는 육신을 십자가에 드리신 예수님과 같이 육신으로 섬기고, 육신이 자기가 옳다 주장하는 주장 앞에서 죄인이 되는 것이라는 것입니다. 그것은 시기와 다툼이 아니라 화평을 이루기 때문입니다.

이 야고보서가 말씀하시고자 하는 것이 육신의 행함이 없으면 믿음이 없다는 것입니다. 야고보 사도는 이 육신을 어떻게 사용하는지에 대하여 말씀하고 있다는 것입니다. 어떤 이들은 육신은 부정하니 행함으로 정하게 하여야 하나님께서 의롭게 여기실 것이라 하여 내용이 행동이 되는 것이 아니라 행동이 내용이 될 것처럼 율법을 지키고, 어떤 이는 믿음이란 육신과는 무관한 것이라 말하는 육신에 대한 무지를 깨우치려 하는 것입니다.

사람들이 이 육신은 십자가를 지신 예수님과 같이 하나님의 의를 행하는 도구라는 것을 알면 시기와 다툼이 없어질 것이기에 야고보 사도가 시기와 다툼을 그치라는 것입니다. 시기와 다툼이 있다는 것은 그 마음에 주장하는 것이 있다는 것이고, 그것은 하늘로부터 온 것이 아니라는 것입니다. 주기도문이 이루어지지 않았다는 것입니다. 위로부터 난 지혜는 육신을 어떻게 쓸 것인지, 또 행함이란 무엇인지를 아는 것이기에 예수님과 같이 육신을 하나님의 의를 표현하는 것에 드릴 것이기 때문입니다. 

왜냐하면 위로부터 난 지혜, 곧 하나님의 의는 우리도 그리스도와 같이 육신이 하나님의 의를 표현하는 것에 소비하는 존재로 살아가도록 하기 때문입니다. 그 삶은 결국 하나님의 의가 육신의 모든 것으로 표현되는 것, 즉 믿음의 행함으로 나타날 것이기 때문입니다.

그런데 많은 기독교인들은 자신들이 옳다고 여기는 믿음과 신앙을 주장하고 있습니다. 자신이 믿는 신앙이 다른 분도 아니라 만유의 주님이신 하나님이기에 어떤 수를 쓰더라도 전해야 한다고 믿고 있습니다. ‘강권하여 내 집을 채우라’고 하셨고, ‘때를 얻든지 못 얻든지 전하라’고 하셨기에 투철하게 전합니다. 하지만 안타깝게도 그것은 위로부터 온 것이 아닙니다. 다른 것 볼 것 없이 화평하게 만드는 것이 아니기 때문입니다.

때로 사람들은 예수님께서 화평이 아니라 불을 던지러 왔다는 것을 인용합니다. 하지만 그 불은 시비를 걸라는 것이 아니라, 사람들의 마음에 예수님에 대한 갈망이 생길 수 있도록 육신으로 살아내라는 것입니다. 그것이 가장 강권한 것이고, 그것이 때와 무관한 것입니다. 항상 그렇게 사는데 때를 얻는 것이 무슨 의미겠습니까? 그리고 무엇보다 이것이 화평이고, 결정적으로 예수님이 십자가를 지신 도가 바로 이것입니다. 

그러므로 사람이 하나님의 의가 자기 안에 거하므로 생명이 되어 그 생명이 이끄는 대로 자기 육신을 드려 그 육신이 하나님의 의를 나타내는 것을 위하여 수고하는 것이 믿음이고 위로부터 온 지혜의 화평입니다. 그리고 그 이끄심은 가진 것이 하나님의 것이기에 주장하는 것이 아니라, 하나님의 아들이 그러셨던 것처럼 섬기고 육신으로 사람이 그리스도가 되고 싶은 마음이 들도록 살아내는 것입니다. 그것이 믿음의 행함인 것입니다.

Many Christians, however, are claiming faith and faith that they believe is right. It is believed that the faith in which you believe is not the other, but the Lord of all. Sometimes people quote that Jesus came to throw fire, not peace. But the fire is not to be fought, but to live in the flesh so that people's hearts will have a desire for Jesus. It is the most powerful, it is irrelevant. What does it mean to get the time to live like that all the time? And above all this is peace, and crucially, Jesus is the cross.

Therefore, it is the faith of the wisdom that comes from Heaven, that the righteousness of God dwells in Himself, that Himself is life, And the draw is not to claim that what we have is God's, but to serve as the Son of God did, and to live in the flesh so that the person would like to be Christ. That is the act of faith.
