(빌립보서 1:12-30) 빌립보서 문안으로 보는 복음의 실체

교회에 다니는 사람들은 의외로 복음과 구원과 성경을 간단하게 생각합니다. 성경은 아주 어려운 것이라고 간단하게 정의하는 것이 그것입니다. 그렇듯 복음도 그냥 단순하게 귀에 좋고 달게 들리는 것이 복음이라고 생각합니다. 구원은 더 어이없습니다. 성경을 다 지켜야 얻는 것이 구원이라면서 지키기 힘든 성경을 지키려 노력하는 중이면서 구원을 받았다고 여깁니다. 아전인수식 해석도 이만하면 거의 엽기적입니다.

예수를 믿는다는 것은 사실 인생 자체를 거는 중대한 일입니다. 이것은 목사나 선교사로 살아야 한다는 이야기가 아닙니다. 인생이 존재했다는 것, 자기도 모르게 존재하게 되었다면 그 존재의 의미를 모르고 존재한 다음에 인식한 세상에서 하고 싶은 것을 하는 것을 인생으로 알고 산다면 그것은 참 허무한 것입니다. 많은 종교가 인생을 “무(無)”라고 말하는 것은 그것입니다. 존재하고 난 다음만 논하기 때문입니다. 그러나 예수를 믿는다는 것은 자신의 존재 이유를 생각하는 세계이므로 이것은 존재하는 이상 가장 중요한 문제입니다.

그러나 사람들은 예수님을 믿는 신앙마저도 자신이 존재한 다음의 문제인 육신의 삶에 관한 것에 매몰되어 있습니다. 그래서 예수님을 믿는 것도 다른 세상일과 같은 레벨에서 봅니다. 단지 좀 더 중요한 일이라고 여기는 정도로 봅니다. 그 대표적인 것이 하나님께서 마귀와 싸우신다고 생각하는 것입니다. 하나님을 세상의 마귀와 같은 링에서 싸우는 동급 중 최강 정도로 보는 것입니다. 즉 사람이 자기 인생의 일들과 예수 믿는 일을 어떻게 동일시하는지를 보여준 대표적인 사례입니다.

생각해보면 사람들이 만드는 모든 물건도 다 존재의 목적이 있습니다. 목적을 알면 행동이 나오고 사용법을 알게 됩니다. 그게 하나님께서 아담에게 말씀하신 다스림입니다. 세상이나 사람인 자기 자신이나 존재의 목적을 알면 다 다스리고 순종하게 되어 있다는 것입니다. 반대로 이것을 모르고 아웅다웅하는 것은 제 아무리 하나님을 위하여 목숨을 바친다고 해 본들 아무 소용이 없습니다. 하나님께서 뜻하신 자신의 존재 이유도 모르는데 남을 위하여 몸을 불사르게 내어준들 소용이 없다는 것입니다.

그러므로 복음은 다른 것이 아닙니다. 사람 귀에 듣기 좋은 소리가 아니라는 것입니다. 하나님을 믿으면 사업이 잘 되고 건강하며 자식들이 성공한다고 하는 것은 다 무당 같은 짓일 뿐입니다. 그런 것들이 제 아무리 하나님의 이름으로 잘 했다고 해 본들 하나님은 사람에게 그것을 지원하시는 분이 아닙니다. 누가 기름 넣고 세차해 주기 위해서 차를 삽니까?

진정한 복음은 사람에게 사람의 존재 목적과 삶의 의미를 알게 하는 것입니다. 그것이 복음이고 구원입니다. 또한 성경은 그것을 이야기하는 책입니다. 성경대로 행동하면 사업 잘되고 건강해지고 불의한 일 만나지 않고 세상에서 성공한다고 하는 것만 알면 그건 주술사의 책이지 성경이 아닙니다.

바울 사도가 빌립보 교회의 성도들에게 편지를 보내면서 문안하는 문안 그 어디에도 너희가 복음을 듣고서 세상에서 장사가 잘 되거나 먹고 마시는 것이 풍성해졌다고 했습니까? 아니면 그렇게 될 것이라고 했습니까? 바울 사도의 문안에는 그런 것이 전혀 없습니다. 오히려 옥에 갇힌 자신과 같이 빌립보 성도들도 고난에 참여하는 하나님의 은혜가 있을 것이라는 어떻게 보면 저주 같은 문안을 하고 있습니다.

이런 모든 것으로 볼 때, 적어도 바울 사도가 그리스도 예수의 사도인 것을 부인하지 않는다면 복음이라는 것은 세상에서 성공하는 것에 관한 것이 아니라 우리가 하나님의 뜻에 의하여 정해진 우리 존재의 목적인 하나님의 성품을 표현하여 하나님의 영광을 나타내는 것을 위해서는 우리 육신의 소비라는 곤고함을 수용하는 것입니다. 그렇게 육신을 소비함에도 불구하고 그것이 우리 존재의 의미기에 복된 소식이고, 그 삶이 기쁨이 되는 것이라는 것을 바울 사도는 빌립보 성도들에게 말씀하고 있는 것입니다.

그렇다면 이 빌립보서를 대하는 오늘 이 시대의 사람과 가고 오는 모든 사람들에게도 복음은 동일한 것이어야 합니다. 아니 사람이 자기가 복음을 어떻게 인식하든 복음은 그런 것입니다. 개가 짖는다고 기차가 서지 않듯이 사람들이 자기 맘대로 복음을 이야기 한다고 본질이 흐릿해지는 복음이 아니기 때문입니다. 

다만 결정할 것은 바울 사도가 전하는 복음을 자신에게 복된 소식으로 순종할 것인지 아닌지만 있을 뿐입니다. 사람이 복음을 변개케 할 수 없다는 것입니다. 왜냐하면 생명의 법이기 때문입니다. 생명은 나면 그것일 뿐 바꿀 수 없습니다. 고양이로 나면 죽일 수는 있어도 고양이 아닌 다른 것으로 바꿀 수 없는 것이 그것입니다. 복음과 성경의 모든 말씀도 사람들이 자기 맘대로 해석한다고 변하는 것이 아닌 것입니다. 

즉 사람들이 제 아무리 예수 믿어 세상에서 성공하여 하나님께 영광 돌린다고 난리를 쳐도 성경과 복음은 우리에게 우리의 존재 목적을 설명함이 변하지 않고, 그 내용은 언제나 십자가를 지신 예수님을 따라 우리도 우리 육신을 드려서 하나님의 아들로 나타나는 것 이외에 다른 것은 없는 것입니다.

바울 사도가 빌립보 성도들에게 문안한 문안의 내용 안에 있는 것, 옥에 갇힌 것이 세상 사람들 눈에 보기에는 하나님께 벌을 받는 것과 같아 보일지 모르지만 복음의 진보라는 것, 자신의 그런 상황이 죽음으로 이어지든 살아서 복음을 전하든 어느 것이라도 다 그리스도를 존귀케 한다는 것, 그리고 그런 모든 고난은 하나님의 은혜에서 비롯되었다는 것이 진정한 복음의 진수라는 것입니다.

세상의 가치관은 성공하고 평안한 것이 축복이나 하나님의 복음은 이 육신을 최대한 소비하여 하나님의 의를 나타내는 것이요, 그런 사람에게는 어떤 선택, 어떤 결과도 존재가 그리스도를 존귀하게 하는 사람이므로 그리스도를 존귀케 한다는 것이며, 그런 고난 같은 삶은 오직 우리가 알 수 없는 한 가지 우리의 존재 이유를 알게 되는 은혜에서 비롯된 것이라는 것을 말씀하시고 있는 것입니다.

그러므로 이 빌립보서를 대할 때, 아니 성경을 대하고 예수님을 믿는다고 하는 것은 인생을 드리는 문제이고, 삶의 모든 순간을 어떤 존재로서 살 것인지의 문제인 만큼 성경을 아는 것을 지식으로 알아서 사람들 앞에서 자랑하려 하는 것이나, 복음을 신앙의 한 옵션으로 아는 것과 같이 여길 것이 아니라는 것입니다. 이것은 존재를 바꾸는 것이기에 삶의 모든 것입니다. 그래서 모든 것 되시는 주님이신 것입니다.

바울 사도가 빌립보 성도들에게 보내는 이 편지와 그 문안은 빌립보 성도들에게 국한된 편지와 문안이 아닙니다. 오늘 그 누구라도 빌립보서와 성경을 대하는 사람이라면 누구라도 고난이 있는 이 은혜에 인생을 걸고 삶의 전부를 걸지 않는다면 어떤 것도 얻을 수 없을 것입니다. 그러나 이것은 교회에 미친 듯이 매달리라는 것이 아닙니다. 존재만 바뀌면 인생의 모든 것이 다 주님의 것이 되는 것입니다. 

그러므로 존재가 바뀌기 까지는 인생으로서 할 수 있는 모든 것을 다해야 하는 것입니다. 그것이 모든 삶을 주께 드리는 것입니다. 하나님의 의가 우리 안에 본성이 되면 그땐 다른 삶을 살고자 하여도 살 수 없는 주님의 것이 되는 것이 이 복음인 것입니다. 이것이 오늘 우리가 바울 사도의 문안을 통해서 비쳐진 복음을 대하는 자세여야 합니다. 그래야 이 문안이 오늘 나에게 의미 있는 문안이 될 것이기 때문입니다.
