(마 5) 빛과 소금- 소금

사람이란 존재는 스스로 인생을 시작한 존재가 아닙니다. 그렇다는 것은 사람은 스스로 자기 존재의 목적을 알 수 있는 것이 아니라는 것입니다. 돛단배 안에서 돛에다가 아무리 부채질을 해도 배가 가지 않는 것과 같이 사람이 자기 인생 전체를 통해서 아무리 노력하고 수고하고 의미를 부여하고 산다고 해도 그것이 진정한 자기 존재의 목적이 될 수 없다는 것입니다.

세상이 각박하고, 또 물질만능주의라는 세상마저 터부시 하는 흐름 속에 살다보니 사람들은 그렇게 세상의 흐름에 휩쓸리지 말고, 자신이 하고 싶은 것을 찾아서 하는 것이 인생의 참 의미라는 나름 감동적인 스토리를 만들어 영화나 책으로 만들기도 합니다. 그런 것을 보고 있으면 나름 의미 있어 보이지만 자가발전일 뿐입니다. 자기가 시작하지 않은 인생이 그 안에서 나오는 것으로 인생의 의미를 찾는다는 것은 그렇게 스스로 최면을 거는 것에 불과합니다. 돛단배 안에서 돛에다 부채질하는 것 이상도 이하도 아니기 때문입니다.

그렇다보니 사람들은 인생의 의미를 가족이나 사랑하는 사람을 사랑하는 것, 때로는 인류나 국가 혹은 다른 사람이나 조직을 위하여 희생하는 것으로 의미를 확장하기도 합니다. 그런 사람들의 모습은 자기 이익에 매몰된 인간들에 비하면 너무 훌륭하지만 그렇다고 해도 하나님께서 말씀하시는 사랑, 곧 인생의 의미를 알고서 그것을 전하기 위한 것이 아니라면 아무 소용이 없다고 성경은 말씀하십니다.(고전 13장)

이처럼 사람들은 스스로 자기 삶의 의미를 알지 못합니다. 알지 못한다는 것은 컴맹이라는 말이 그렇듯 어두움입니다. 이것을 밝히 알게 하신 예수님께서 빛이신 이유가 바로 이것입니다. 다시 말해서 그렇게 예수님을 만나면 인생의 의미를 알게 된다는 것입니다. 이것이 바로 예수 그리스도로 거듭난 사람이 ‘소금’인 이유인 것입니다. 소금은 음식에게 의미를 부여하기 때문입니다. 

소금이 없으면 음식이 맛이 없듯 예수 그리스도의 정체성이 없으면 인생에 의미가 없고, 그런 사람이 없으면 세상이 무의미하고, 사람의 존재 목적이 그렇게 사는 것인데 그리스도가 없다면 맛 잃은 소금과 같으니 아무 짝에 쓸모없어 버려지는 것이 당연한 것입니다. 하나님께서 괜히 ‘사망 가운데 있는 인생’이라고 말씀하시는 것이 아닙니다.

예수님께서 제자들을 보고 “너희는 빛”이라고 하셨습니다. 빛으로 오신 예수님께서 빛이라고 했다면 그들도 예수님과 같은 정체성을 가진 존재입니다. 그렇게 보면 또한 그들이 소금이면 예수님도 소금이신 것입니다. 인생에 의미를 부여하는 존재라는 것입니다. 이는 사람이라는 존재는 소금이 짠맛을 가지고 있듯, 그 안에 그리스도의 정체성을 가지고 있어야 한다는 것입니다. 그것이 없으면 죽은 것이라는 것이 하나님의 정의입니다.

예수님께서는 그의 제자들에게 ‘너희가 바로 사람에게 삶의 의미를 알게 하는 소금’이라고 하셨습니다. 이는 예수님께서 ‘너희는 세상의 빛’이라고 하시면서 말씀하시는 ‘너희’라는 대상이 사람들에게 인생의 의미를 알게 하는 존재라는 것을 선언하시는 것입니다. 그렇다면 그것은 ‘너희’는 예수 그리스도와 같은 정체성을 가졌다는 것입니다. 사람들에게 인생의 의미를 알게 하시는 이가 그리스도이시듯, 예수 그리스도가 ‘너희’라고 하는 이들 역시 예수님과 같이 그리스도라는 정체성을 가지고 있다는 것입니다.

이것은 정체성에 관한 것입니다. 노력으로 되는 것이 아닙니다. 소금이라는 것이 짠 바닷물, 이미 소금기와 짠 맛을 가진 바닷물에서 물을 증발시켜 얻고, 이미 짠맛을 가진 소금을 광물처럼 얻는 것이지 어떤 물질에 짠맛을 더한 것이 아닙니다. 따라서 어떤 경우라도 ‘예수님의 말씀과 같이 우리도 소금과 같이 되려고 노력해야 한다.’고 설교하는 이들은 다 삯꾼이라고 할 수밖에 없습니다. 거짓밀이기 때문입니다.

사람이 가진 가장 큰 어두움, 그것은 존재의 목적과 삶의 의미를 알 수 없는 것입니다. 이것을 밝히고 의미 있게 만드는 것이 바로 그리스도의 정체성입니다. 사람이 자기 정체성을 그리스도와 같음을 인정하므로 자신도 그리스도와 같은 정체성을 회복하면 존재의 목적도, 삶의 의미도 알게 되는 것입니다. 그렇게 된 존재가 바로 빛과 소금인 것입니다. 예수님께서 그리스도이시기에 그 그리스도께서 너희도 나와 같이 빛과 같은 존재라고 하셨으니 당연한 것입니다.

이 빛과 소금에 관한 말씀은 너무 유명하니까 쉽게 그 의미가 자신의 것이라고 생각합니다. 하지만 이것은 신앙의 근간에 해당하는 것입니다. 우리가 예수님과 같은 정체성을 가질 때 비로소 빛과 소금이 되는 것이기 때문입니다. 예수님과 같은 정체성을 가진 존재가 바로 제자이기도 한 것입니다. 예수님의 모든 것을 순종한 존재, 그들이 제자이기 때문입니다.

그들이 바로 예수님께서 산에 올라 가르치시니 제자로서 나온 자들이기 때문입니다. 그 제자가 바로 빛과 소금인 것입니다. 그들이 바로 예수님과 같이 그리스도의 정체성을 가진 존재이기에 사람들에게 인생의 목적과 삶의 의미를 알게 하는 존재이기 때문입니다. 우리가 예수님께서 말씀하신 그 ‘너희’인가 아닌가는 바로 자기 안에서 나오지 않은 인생의 목적과 삶의 의미를 그리스도로 인하여 알게 되었는지, 그것이 다른 사람에게도 동일한 의미를 가지는지를 보고 알 수 있습니다. 그것이 바로 진정한 빛과 소금이 된 너희의 일원으로 사는 것입니다.

Without salt there is no taste of food. If there is no identity of Jesus Christ, there is no meaning in life. If there is no such person, the world is meaningless and the purpose of existence of man is to live like that. Without Christ, it is like salt that has lost taste. It is natural to be thrown away. It is not that God is saying 'life in death'.

Jesus said to the disciples, "You are the light." If Jesus came to the light and said that it is light, they are also identities like Jesus. So, also, if they were salt, Jesus was also salt. It is a being that gives meaning to life. This means that a person must have Christ's identity in it, just as salt has salty taste. It is God's definition that it is dead if it is not there.

Jesus told his disciples, 'You are the salt to make people know the meaning of life.' It is Jesus' declaration that "the object of you" that you are saying, "You are the light of the world," is the being that makes people aware of the meaning of life. If so, it means that you have the same identity as Jesus Christ. Just as Christ is the person who makes people aware of the meaning of life, Jesus Christ is the same as Jesus Christ.

This is about identity. It is not an effort. Salt is called salty waters, it is obtained by evaporating water from salty and salty waters, and it is already a salty salt to get like minerals, not something salty. Therefore, in any case, those who preach "We must try to be like salt as Jesus said" are all hired. It is a false wheat.

The greatest darkness that man has is that he can not know the purpose of existence and the meaning of life. It is Christ's identity that makes it clear and meaningful. A person with the same identity as Jesus is also a disciple. They are obedient to all of Jesus, because they are disciples.

For they are the ones who came out of the mountain to teach Jesus. The disciple is light and salt. Because they are Christ-like beings, just like Jesus, they are people who know the purpose of life and the meaning of life. Whether we are "you" or not, we can see whether we have come to know the purpose of life and the meaning of life because of Christ, and whether it has the same meaning to other people. That is to live as a member of your true light and salt.
