(마 17) 변화산 사건으로 표현된 하나님의 의

예수님께서 베드로와 야고보 그리고 요한을 데리고 높은 산에 올라가셨는데 그 제자들 앞에서 얼굴이 변형되사 얼굴이 해 같이 빛나고 옷이 빛과 같이 희어진 사건이 바로 마태복음 17장에 나오는 변화산 사건입니다.

더불어 이 사건에서는 엘리야와 모세가 함께 나타나서 예수님과 대화하는 것을 제자들이 보았다고 하고 있습니다. 엘리야나 모세는 당시 제자들이 살아 있을 때 사람들이 아니라 오래 전에 죽은 사람들입니다. 그런데 그들이 엘리야와 모세를 알아보았다는 것입니다. 물론 예수님의 대화 속에서 그 이름이 나왔을 수도 있습니다만 이는 단지 엘리야와 모세라는 사람 그 자체의 현현을 강조하기 위한 것이 아닙니다. 이는 엘리야로 상징되는 것과 모세로 상징되는 것을 함께 설명하는 것입니다.

예수님께서 변화산에서 변화되셨을 때, 산 아래서는 귀신들린 어린 아이가 있었습니다. 그의 아버지는 그 아이의 병을 고치려고 제자들에게 데리고 왔습니다. 그런데 고치지 못했습니다. 그 아이의 증상은 귀신이 들려서 불에도 넘어지고 물에도 넘어진다는 것이었습니다. 

한편 산 위에서는 불의 선지자 엘리야, 물의 선지자 모세가 나타났는데, 베드로가 엘리야와 모세를 예수님과 함께 모시자고 들떠 있었는데 하늘에서 소리가 나서 “이는 내 사랑하는 아들이요 내 기뻐하는 자니 너희는 저의 말을 들으라.”는 말씀에 눈을 들어보니 예수님만 보이고 다른 선지자는 사라진 사건과 연결되어 있습니다.

엘리야는 불의 선지자입니다. 갈멜산에서 기도하므로 하늘에서 불이 내려왔고, 불마차가 하늘로 데리고 올라간 선지자입니다. 모세는 그 이름 자체가 ‘물에서 건져낸 자’라는 의미를 가졌을 뿐 아니라, 실재로 물에서 건짐을 받았고, 또 이스라엘 백성들을 데리고 큰 물 홍해를 건너기도 했습니다. 그리고 또한 물을 반석에서 내는 과정에서 실수하여 가나안에 들어가지 못하게 되기도 했습니다.

그러나 무엇보다 성경에서 ‘불’은 ‘기적’을 ‘물’은 ‘말씀’을 의미합니다. 엘리야는 하늘에서 불이 떨어지게 했고, 가뭄도 해결했으며 죽은 사람도 살리고 자신도 죽지 않았습니다. 반면에 모세는 십계명을 하나님께 받은 사람인 것이 그것입니다. 

그러므로 귀신 들린 아이가 물에도 넘어지기도 하고, 불에도 넘어진다는 것은 말씀(여기서는 율법)에 의지해 보기도 하고 기적에 의지해보기도 하더라는 것입니다. 귀신이 들렸다는 것은 사람이 자기 정신을 빼앗긴 상태입니다. 즉 자기 존재의 목적대로 살지 못하고 있는 상태를 말씀하시는 것입니다. 그러니까 인생이 왜 사는지 모르고 살고 있는 모든 사람들은 다 하나 같이 귀신 들린 사람인 것입니다.

사람이 자기 존재의 목적, 삶의 의미를 모르니 기적에도 의지하고 율법에도 의지하여 살아가는데 그 모습을 바로 산 아래 있는 귀신 들린 아이를 통하여 보여주시는 것입니다. 대부분의 사람들이 자기 존재의 목적이 모르니 인생의 두려움과 불확실성을 기적에도 의지해보고, 율법을 지키듯 자기 행동을 단련하기도 해 보는 것입니다. 무당을 찾아가기도 하고, 기도 잘하는 기도원을 찾기도 하고, 또 좋다는 말씀을 듣고 그렇게 행동해보려고도 하는 것입니다. 그것이 바로 물에도 넘어지고 불에도 넘어지는 인생의 모습입니다.

이러한 인생의 모습은 산 위에서도 나타납니다. 베드로가 예수님과 모세와 엘리야를 위하여 초막 셋을 짓자고 말하는 것이 그것입니다. 예수님도 있고, 기적도 있고, 말씀도 있으면 좋겠다는 것입니다. 그러자 하늘에서 소리가 나서 이르기를 “이는 내 사랑하는 아들이요 내 기뻐하는 자니 너희는 저의 말을 들으라.”고 하십니다. 그 소리에 두려워 엎드린 제자들이 고개를 들어보니 모세도 엘리야도 없고 예수님만 보이더라는 것입니다. 즉 하나님의 뜻은 모세나 엘리야를 따를 것이 아니라 예수님만 따르라는 것입니다.

산 위에서 제자들이 겪은 일과 산 아래에서 귀신 들린 아이를 제자들이 고치지 못한 것과 맥락을 같이 합니다. 기도라는 것의 본질은 그리스도를 구하는 것입니다. 그리스도를 구한다는 것은 인생의 존재 목적을 구하는 것입니다. 그리스도의 정체성이 바로 하나님께서 사람을 지으신 목적이 육신이 된 모습이기 때문입니다. 따라서 사람이 그리스도의 정체성을 가진 상태, 곧 하나님께서 사람을 지으신 목적이 자기 존재의 목적이 된 사람은 귀신 들리지 않은 사람이고, 반대인 사람은 모두 귀신 들린 자입니다.

귀신 들린 사람은 기적에도 의지하고, 율법을 지키는 것에도 의지하나 고칠 수 없습니다. 예수님의 말씀과 같이 기도가 부족하기 때문입니다. 기도는 인간의 존재 정체성을 구하는 것이기 때문입니다. 그리고 이 인간의 존재 정체성은 예수님 외에는 다른 것이 필요 없습니다. 엘리야의 기적도 모세의 율법도 필요 없습니다. 오직 예수님만 있으면 된다는 것입니다. 

그렇게 예수님 외에는 다른 것이 보이지 않는 안목을 가진 사람은 예수님의 얼굴이 해와 같고 그 옷은 빛과 같이 보인다는 것입니다. 아니 자신도 그런 사람이 된다는 것입니다. 예수님께서 자기 인생에, 그러니까 인생의 목적이 무엇인지를 아는 사람이 되면 세상의 모든 것을 밝히 아는 빛을 만난 사람이 되는 것이기 때문입니다. 빛을 만났다는 것은 모든 것을 목적대로 사용할 수 있는 인식을 가졌다는 것이기 때문입니다. 그리고 그런 사람은 불에도 넘어지지 않고, 물에도 넘어지지 않습니다. 예수님에 모세를 더할 필요도, 엘리야를 더할 필요도 없는 것입니다.

예수님께서 변화산에서 보이신 기적, 그리고 그 변화산 사건이 일어날 때 산 아래에 있었던 사건이 오늘 우리에게 전하고자 하시는 의미가 바로 이런 것입니다. 사람이 자기 존재의 정체성을 아는 삶, 그리스도의 성품을 가지고 사는 삶, 하나님의 뜻대로 사는 삶은 예수 그리스도 이외에 어떤 것도 필요치 않다는 것을 말씀하시는 것입니다.

On the other hand, Elijah the prophet of fire, and Moses the prophet of the water, appeared on the mountain, and Peter was excited to take Elijah and Moses with Jesus. Elijah is a prophet of fire. Because of prayer on Mount Carmel, fire came down from heaven, and a wagon came up to heaven. Not only did the name itself mean "the one who saved it from the waters," Moses was actually delivered from the waters, and also with the Israelites across the Red Sea. And also, in the process of releasing water from the rock, we could not make a mistake and enter Canaan.

But most of all, in the Bible, 'fire' means 'miracle' and 'water' means 'word'. Elijah caused the fire to fall from heaven, and the drought was resolved, and the dead died, and they themselves did not die. On the other hand, Moses is the one who received the Ten Commandments from God.

Therefore, a child who is possessed of a demon falls on the water and falls on the fire. He either relies on the Word (here, the Law) or relies on miracles. The fact that a ghost has been heard is a condition in which a person has been deprived of his own spirit. That is, the state of being unable to live according to the purpose of self-existence. So all the people who live without knowing why they live are all demon-possessed.

When a person does not know the purpose of his existence, the meaning of life, he relies on miracles and rely on the law. Most people do not know the purpose of their existence, so they rely on miracles for their fear and uncertainty in life, and try their own actions as well as obeying the law. I go to the shaman, I look for a prayer source who is good at praying, and I try to act like that when I hear that it is good. It is the appearance of life that falls on the water and falls on fire.

The appearance of this life also appears on the mountain. That is what Peter says to build three cottages for Jesus, Moses, and Elijah. There is Jesus, there is a miracle, and there is a word. Then a voice came out of heaven and said, "This is my beloved Son, and I am pleased; hear ye my words." The disciples who were afraid of the sound heard their heads and said that neither Moses nor Elijah saw Jesus. That is, God's will is not to follow Moses or Elijah, but to follow Jesus.

It is in the context of what happened to the disciples on the mountain and what the disciples did not fix the child who was demon-possessed under the mountain. The essence of prayer is to save Christ. To save Christ is to seek the purpose of existence in life. The identity of Christ is because God created the purpose of man as a body. Therefore, a person with a Christian identity, that is, a person whose purpose God created for himself is the one who is not demon-possessed, and all who are opposed are demon-possessed.

Those who have demons depend on miracles and rely on keeping the law, but they can not fix it. It is because of lack of prayer as Jesus said. Prayer is to seek human existence identity. And this human existence identity does not need anything other than Jesus. There is no need for Elijah's miracle nor the law of Moses. Only Jesus needs to be there.

The person who has an eye for something other than Jesus is that the face of Jesus looks like the sun and the clothes look like light. No, that is to be such a person. When Jesus becomes a person in his life, that is to say, the purpose of life, he becomes a person who has met the light that knows everything in the world. The reason I met light was that I had a perception that I could use everything for my purposes. And such a person does not fall into the fire nor fall into the water. You do not need to add Moses to Jesus, or add Elijah.

This is what miracles Jesus showed in the mountains of change, and what the events under the mountains would bring to us today when the events of that change occurred. A life in which one knows the identity of one's being, lives in the character of Christ, and lives according to God's will, does not need anything other than Jesus Christ.
