(로마서 15:1-13) 강하고 의로운 자가 강하고 의로운 이유

하나님께서 만드신 세상은 하나님의 법이 다스리는 곳입니다. 비록 사람들의 눈에는 돈 가진 사람, 권력을 가진 사람이나 또 불의를 행하는 사람들에 의하여 세상이 좌지우지 되는 것 같아 보일지 모르지만 하나님께서 원하시는 것은 그런 정의가 아니라, 그런 모든 것이 산재한 가운데 하나님의 의를 나타내는 사람들의 삶이 있음에 만족하시는 분이 하나님이십니다. 하나님께서 세상을 만드신 이유가 그것이기 때문입니다.

하나님께서는 이 세상을 통하여 하나님의 성품을 나타내시고자 창조하셨지 이 세상에 속한 사람이 모두 평화롭고 만족하는 것을 위하여 만드신 것이 아닙니다. 그러므로 세상은 사람 보기에는 시끄럽고 난리도 아닌 것 같지만 하나님께서는 그 원하시는 하나님의 성품이 드러나는 일이 원하시는 대로 되면 만족하실 것입니다.

바로 그 하나님의 의가 나타난 사람이 예수 그리스도이십니다. 그렇다는 것은 예수 그리스도께서 보이신 삶과 전하신 말씀이 바로 하나님께서 이 세상을 만드신 뜻이라는 것입니다. 그리고 예수님께서 보이신 최고의 모습은 다름이 아니라 바로 십자가의 모습입니다. 십자가의 도가 바로 하나님의 아들이 나타나는 것입니다. 실재로 예수님께서 십자가에 못 박히실 때 밑에 있던 백부장도 예수님을 보고 하나님의 아들이라고 하였고, 성전 안에 있는 지성소와 성소를 구분하는 휘장이 위에서부터 아래로 찢어져서 지성소 안에 있던 하나님의 의가 이제는 제사장이 아닌 모든 사람의 것이 되었습니다. 

그러므로 우리는 이 십자가의 도를 잘 알면 될 것입니다. 이 십자가의 도를 알면 우리는 세상을 살 때 불편하지 않습니다. 하나님께서 만드신 세상이 어떤 목적으로 만들어졌는지를 알고 그 목적이 자신의 본성이 되었는데 세상이 이해하기 힘든 세상이 될 수 없기 때문입니다. 그러면 앞선 14장 마지막에 말씀하신 것과 같이 자책하지 않는 복을 받은 것입니다.

이 십자가의 도는 다른 것이 아닙니다. 의인이 죄인을 위하여 죄인이 되는 세계의 법입니다. 하나님이 만드신 세상에서 가장 의로운 것은 ‘하나님의 의’입니다. 그 ‘하나님의 의’의 본체이신 예수님, 그 ‘하나님의 의’가 육신이 되신 예수님보다 이 세상에서 의로운 것은 없다는 것입니다. 그런데 그 의로운 예수님께서 죄인이 되어 십자가에서 처형되었더니 ‘하나님의 의’가 나타났다는 것입니다. 이것이 하나님의 의로움입니다.

우리가 성경을 떠나서 봐도 어떤 분야에서든지 강하고 잘하며 능숙할 뿐 아니라 그 세계의 원리와 의를 알고 있는 사람들이 늘 있습니다. 수학이나 과학이나 또 윤리나 그 모든 것에 있어서 그런 사람은 늘 있습니다. 즉 의롭고 이긴 자가 어떤 세계든 있다는 것입니다. 그렇다면 그 의로움과 이김은 무엇을 위하여 있는 것일까요? 이것을 알면 그 세계가 어떤 세계라 할지라도 다툼이 없는 세계가 될 수 있습니다. 왜냐하면 그것이 바로 십자가의 도이기 때문입니다.

세상의 어떤 분야라도 그 세계 안에서 의롭고 이긴 사람이 의롭고 이긴 사람이 된 이유는 오직 하나입니다. 그것은 그 세계에서 의롭고 강하지 못한 이를 위하여 섬기고, 의롭지 못하고 약한 이가 의롭고 강한 이가 되고 싶은 마음이 들도록 살아내고, 또 그렇게 살려고 할 때 섬기기 위하여 먼저 강하고 이기고 의로운 자가 되는 것입니다. 만약 이것이 세상의 모든 분야에서 지켜진다면 세상은 말 그대로 천국이 될 것입니다.

예수님께서 지신 십자가의 도는 세상에서 가장 온전한 의를 가지신 예수님께서 자기 의로움과 그 의로움에서 비롯된 선악의 기준으로 충만한 죄인들이 심판한 심판에 의하여 죄인이 되어 십자가를 지시므로 오히려 십자가에 못 박은 어리석은 인생들이 그 예수님이 가지신 의를 자기 생명으로 얻을 수 있는 하나님의 놀라운 섭리이자, 하나님께서 이 세상을 만드실 때에 나타내시고자 한 하나님의 형상과 의로움입니다.

그것을 사람을 통하여 나타내시고자 하신 것은 세상의 모든 존재 중에서 종족 전체가 자신의 수고로 남이 스스로 의로움을 가질 의도와 용기를 가지는 것이 무엇인지를 아는 유일한 존재라는 것에서 하나님께서 사람을 통하여 그 형상을 나타내시고자 하심이 드러나는 것입니다. 사람은 누구나 그럴 수 있다는 것입니다. 반면에 세상의 모든 존재들은 늘 강한 것이 약한 것을 이깁니다. 동물의 세계도 약육강식의 세계인 것이 그렇습니다. 그러므로 사람도 어떤 의에 대하여 약육강식의 관계가 된다면 그것이 바로 사람의 양심을 버린 짐승과 같은 존재가 되는 것입니다.

그러므로 우리 인생을 하나님께서 만드시고 또 예수님을 통하여 십자가의 도로 나타내신 하나님의 의는 강한 자는 약한 자를 위하여 수고하기 위하여 강하게 된 것이고, 더 의로운 자는 의롭지 못한 이를 위항 섬기고 수고하는 것을 위하여 의롭게 되었다는 것이 깨닫고 드러나고 육신으로 표현되는 것입니다. 그렇게 될 때 하나님의 의가 나타나는 것입니다. 그리고 이것은 신앙에서도 동일한 것이기에 믿음이 강하고 더 밝고 의로운 자는 자신이 그렇게 된 것은 하나님의 은혜이고 그 은혜는 하나님의 의를 나타내기 위하여 수고하기 위하여 주신 것이라는 것을 아는 것입니다. 이것을 알면 로마서 15장의 처음 부분은 너무나 자연스럽게 알 수 있는 것입니다.
