미가의 우상과 교리

미가의 제사장의 일은 한 눈에 보기에도 사람들이 하나님의 법이 아닌 자기들의 법으로 하나님을 믿노라 하는 것이 어떤 것인지를 보여주는 사건입니다. 이러한 사건은 성경에 비일비재합니다. 아브라함이 하갈에서 이스마엘을 낳은 것에서부터 롯의 두 딸이 모압과 벤암미(암몬)을 낳은 일 그리고 사울이 자기 맘대로 제사를 지낸 일 등등 두께가 좀 된다 싶은 성경 곳곳에 넘쳐납니다.

사람들의 이런 습관은 오늘 날도 그치지 않고 있습니다. 하나님을 신상을 만들 듯 자기 맘대로 규정하고 그 섬기는 법도 스스로 제사장을 세우듯 맘대로 하고 있습니다. 물로 겉으로 보면 티가 나지 않습니다. 다 성경에서 나온 것으로 합니다. 미가의 신상을 지은 미가의 어미도 여호와를 위하여 한 것이지 바알이나 아세라를 위하여 신상을 지은 것이 아닙니다.

교회, 아닌 종교단체의 지주회사격인 교단별로 헌법이라는 것이 있습니다. 그 교단의 신앙 교리와 교회 운영에 대한 헌법이라는 것입니다. 그 헌법의 토대는 당연히 성경입니다. 그러니까 헌법은 하나님을 믿는 것에 대한 기준이라는 것입니다. 외형적으로 볼 때 이것은 틀린 것이 전혀 없는 온전한 것이라고 할 수 있습니다. 성경에서 액기스만 뽑았다고 해도 과언이 아니기 때문입니다. 물론 행정에 관한 것은 제외하고.

교리의 이러한 면은 사람으로 하여금 하나님을 믿는 것을 능동적인 것이라는 생각을 하게 합니다. 하나님께 무엇을 드리고, 하나님께 행위의 소산을 드리며, 의지를 가지고 교리를 지키는 신념과 열정이 곧 믿음이고 신앙이라고 생각하게 만든다는 것입니다. 하지만 믿음은 단지 하나님의 의를 자기 정체성으로 순종하는 본질적으로 수동적인 것이며, 그 수동적인 순종으로 인하여 받아들인 하나님의 의가 자기 생명의 본성이 되므로 그 본성대로 살아보니 성경은 자연스레 지켜지는 것이 하나님의 법이고 성경의 말씀입니다.

이런 역방향과 오류 속에서 사람들이 살다가 보니 이젠 너무 자연스러울 정도로 하나님을 믿는 것은 하나님께 자신이 무엇을 드리는 것이며, 성경은 원래 사람이 지키기 어려운 것인데 그것을 얼마나 지켜내는지가 바로 믿음의 척도라는 것이 정설이 되었고, 무엇을 어떻게 드리며, 무엇을 어떻게 지킬 것인지를 학문으로 연구한 것이 신학이 된 것입니다.

바로 여기에서 무형의 우상이 양산되는 것입니다. 미가의 신당이 양산되는 것이라는 것입니다. ‘이렇게 하는 것이 하나님을 위하는 것’이라는 신념이 바로 미가의 어미가 ‘여호와를 위하여’라고 하는 것과 같은 것이기 때문입니다. 우상이라는 것이 다른 것이 아닙니다. 하나님의 정체성과 다르게 하나님을 믿는 모든 것이 다 우상입니다.

사람들의 그런 생각 이면에는 눈에 보이는 육신의 삶을 본질로 보고 육신이 풍요해지는 것이 하나님께 복을 받는 것이라고 아전인수 격으로 해석한 교만함이 있습니다. 자신이 풍족해지는 것이 하나님께 유익한 것이라고 생각하는 놀라운 교만이 있다는 것입니다. 그리고 그 교만을 채우기 위해서는 ‘이렇게 해야 하나님께서 복을 주시고, 화를 면케 하신다.’는 기반을 행위에 둔 조건을 성경에서 찾아 정하는 것입니다. 그 생각이 오늘날 함축된 것이 바로 교리이기도 한 것입니다.

하나님을 믿는 신앙은 우리 육신이 복을 받는 것으로 가늠할 수 없습니다. 그러면 십자가에 달린 예수님이나 순교자들은 다 벌 받은 것이 될 것입니다. 우리의 육신에게 유일한 복은 지음 받은 목적대로 소비하는 것입니다. 망치는 못 박는데 사용되는 것이 가장 큰 복이지 잘 보관되는 것이 복이 아닌 것과 같습니다. 그렇듯 우리 육신의 삶은 소비되는 것이고 점점 쇠약해 지는 존재인데 이것에 반하는 것을 복으로 여긴다면 이 인생을 만드신 하나님은 바보가 되는 것입니다.

그렇듯 이 육신에 대한 생각이 모든 우상을 양산하는 근원입니다. 이 육신은 하나님의 뜻에 순종하므로 본성이 된 하나님의 의를 나타내는 것에 소비되는 것이 진정한 복이고 우리 삶의 목적이며 정체성이라는 것을 안다면 우리는 당연히 이 육신이 복을 받기 위하나 조건으로서 성경을 지키려 하지 않을 것입니다. 교리 같은 것은 정리하지 않아도 된다는 것입니다. 하나님의 의에 순종하므로 소비하는 삶의 모습이 바로 교리로 정리한 성도의 삶이기 때문입니다.
